    Hello from interior Alaska

It has been 43 years since I worked on Afognak. It was a Native corporation then. I was falling timber, if you could call those trees timber. We worked 8 weeks straight with 2 weeks off. I don't remember much about the trip to Chicken. I do remember I bought a lot of drinks to keep from...

    444 marlin black powder

Did you do shoot outs in Sumpter? I don't get up there often but happened to be driving through town last spring and there was a shoot out going on in the parking lot by the dredge.

    Hello from interior Alaska

I worked in Alaska 1976-1981. Most of that in Southeast a long ways from you. One year on Afognak (next door to Kodiak). That year I worked with some guys from up north. I took a couple trips with them on time off. Went to Chicken once and another trip to Flat. Both of those places were...

To durn muddy to keep hauling water

Where I really got an education was when I first started trying to make money raising cattle.

What is an annoyance that Ranchers have to deal with everyday?

Speaking of annoyances. I was watching the Denver stock show and rodeo and I never saw him. It is winter so he should be wearing a felt hat. One of my old rodeo buddy's passed me on the freeway yesterday. I didn't recognize him. He wasn't wearing a cowboy hat. He had a Stormy Kromer on. I...

To durn muddy to keep hauling water

It is getting bad when you can even harass a goat rancher a little without being accused of lacking knowledge of sarcasm. I am leaving my new rope at home. Let him hang himself with his own worn out old rope. I need to let you know that I understand sarcasm very well. After all I have a...

What is an annoyance that Ranchers have to deal with everyday?

Yep, small annoyances are just every day life. If you let them "annoy' you than you wont be doing this very long.

To durn muddy to keep hauling water

Ha ha That will probably work better. I got to thinking. Out there in the desert there probably isn't a decent tree anyway.

What is an annoyance that Ranchers have to deal with everyday?

Ceertainly not everyday. But urban dwelling tourists. Nothing like a camp fire in August to inspire some language not fit for mixed company.

To durn muddy to keep hauling water

I have a new rope. Should we make a road trip?

    Our turn

We have all noticed how timid and sensitive you are. I was going to say something but didn't want to hurt your feelings.

    Our turn

Hopefully it is the Omnicrom (sp) version. I saw where John Hopkins University looked at 55,000 people with that variant. Zero deaths, zero ventilators, only about 200 hospitalizations, and the average hospital stay for those was about 2 days. Sounds like it is just a bad cold.

    Our turn

Prayers for Mrs H and a quick recovery. At the risk of sounding sexist, women seem to get it worse than man. I know of 6 couples including us where the wife had a solid case of it and the husband just has the sniffles. When my wife had it she took imovec every day. The apple flavored horse...

Kinda cool news about Little H

Congratulations to Little H. It is great to have a goal and achieve it way ahead of schedule. Hard work does pay off. As to her having a parent dumber than Biden in a spelling bee. I don't believe it for a second. I have read many complete sentences that you have been able to form. On...

    Snow on the mountain

I don't get sun set pictures here as the mountains to the west are too close. The sun goes behind them a little after 2:00. I get sun rise pictures. Sun rise this morning with snow on Lookout and Little Lookout.

What's the weather like at your place?

We had 2 + weeks with the highs below freezing. We had snow along the way. Never more than an inch or two per day. But it amounted to 8 inches of settled snow. Yesterday the temperature went up to the mid 40's. Everything turned to slush or water. But the ground is still frozen so it had no...

    Life is good!

Good to hear. Thanks for the good news. When the wife had it she didn't have any lasting issues. But she gave it to her sister who has some under lying health issues. It took the sis a couple months but she did fully recover. Just spoil her for about a week, then put her back to work.

Does Anyone Still Move Cattle South for the Winter?

I worked for a ranchers years ago in Washington who hauled his cows from up near the Canadian border down to the Tri cities area every winter. That is probably a 200/300 mile haul. He did it for two reasons. The climate was much milder. Also he didn't raise much hay. So he would have to...

What's the weather like at your place?

This morning it is around 15 degrees. Yesterday was -7 and they said it was going to be 5 this morning. I am glad the weather guessers were wrong in the right direction. We had an elk roast that the wife cooked in a cast iron kettle on top of the wood stove for a long time. Turned out nice...
