    Soapweed???????????

We've had better luck with it than anything else we've ever tried. It's Brock's "baby," and he really likes it.

STORY OF THE LOST CHAIRS By Steve Moreland, July 21, 2019

Maybe it was the rough riding Chevy pickup that was the cause of the chairs falling out, rather than the wind. :-)

STORY OF THE LOST CHAIRS By Steve Moreland, July 21, 2019

STORY OF THE LOST CHAIRS By Steve Moreland, July 21, 2019 Back in my younger years, there were no cell phones, and not everyone even had a landline telephone. Local calls were handled by a telephone operator, who would connect the caller to whoever they wanted to call. The caller would ring...

AN OLD COWBOY’S LAMENT By Steve Moreland, July 19, 2019

AN OLD COWBOY’S LAMENT By Steve Moreland, July 19, 2019 A few months ago I was sitting at the sale barn with an old friend, who has been a cowboy and rancher all his life. In our conversation he lamented that he needed a new hat, but hesitated in buying one because they were so expensive. I...

Pictures from our visit to the McGinnis Ranch near Baker City, Oregon - June 26, 2019

Here is a little point of interest that I seemed to remember and had to Google to answer my own question: In 1910, Baker City residents voted to change the name of the town to Baker, but after another vote in 1989 the official name was changed back to Baker City.

    What a surprise!

Someday we very much want to do just that. It's quite a jaunt up to your country from ours.

    What a surprise!

We had a fun time meeting Nicky and Mike. They have a very picturesque well-cared for ranch, and they are fine stewards of their land and livestock. It was a pleasure seeing them live and in person, even though we feel we've known them for many years.

CHERRY COUNTY PRIDE - By Steve Moreland, June 21, 2019

CHERRY COUNTY PRIDE By Steve Moreland – June 21, 2019 Cherry County is wonderful cattle country in the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills, and has more mother cows than any other county in the nation. This has always been a source of pride for those of us who live here. Bovine residents number...

    March blizzard 2019

Wish we could share. Our roads are all but impassable, and the meadows and low ground are covered with water. This is the wettest I've ever seen this country in my 67 year life span. Many bridges are out, and not too many miles away there are buildings under water. It's hard to keep in mind...

BIRTHDAY BUST By Steve Moreland, April 20, 2019

BIRTHDAY BUST By Steve Moreland, April 20, 2019 The year was 1980, and the day was November 8th. It was my 29th birthday. Carol and I were ranching on our first “Spearhead Ranch,” which was located 20 miles south of Merriman, Nebraska. My folks ranched eight miles northeast of Merriman, and...

    Good Sunday Mornin'

As "they" say, "There aren't any atheists in the foxholes." It's been a long hard cold calving season, with a genuine (not Dairy Queen) blizzard for dessert. It looks a bit like a war zone around here, with calves as casualties, but our hardships are quite insignificant compared to the...

Soapweed I found all the rabbits

If a rabbit musher had all of them hooked up to a sled, think how fast they could get through the Iditarod. That was some impressive video footage. Wonder where this was filmed?
