    anybody having pinkeye problems?

This afternoon I went to the feed mill that makes my mineral. I had a very informative meeting with the manager. At his suggestion, I am upping the CTC and Vitamin A in my mineral. Vitamin A is sensitive to heat, sunlight and humidity. I also wasn't adding enough CTC to bring my mineral to a...

    anybody having pinkeye problems?

Today, I was reading an article in Progressive Cattleman that really surprised me. Did you know that, right now in the U.S., CTC is not labeled for pink eye or foot rot? So adding it a mineral or feed as a preventative or control of foot rot and/or pinkeye is illegal. Once the VFD goes into...

    anybody having pinkeye problems?

I talked with my veterinarian this afternoon. He says pinkeye is really bad (in this area) this year. I asked if he offered financing on Draxxin. He didn't seem to find any humor in my comment. Mostly, it's tough to find an antibiotic that is concentrated and fluid enough to use with a...

    anybody having pinkeye problems?

I have a medicated mineral out. Their consumption has been fairly steady at about 125-150 lbs every 10 days or so. 68 pairs. I've added some extra CTC and put out sulfur blocks. Today, I added extra iodine to the mineral. We've had a lot of rain this summer, the grass is tall and everyone seems...

    anybody having pinkeye problems?

Besides me? Wow. Everything was given an autogenous pinkeye shot, Long Range wormer shot and a fly tag but none of that seems to mean much right now. Sure appreciate my dart rifle but the calves not so much. Even the older cows can't fight this off.

    Dart gun question

Thanks rancherfred. I'm betting that was my mistake. I only pumped it twice because it being a smaller calf I thought it would'n't need much force. Thank You very much. Traveler, my darts have a gel collar on them which supposedly limits the depth of entry of the needle. Darts are single use.

    Dart gun question

I have a PneuDart rifle. Not Co2 but the pump style. I darted a 250lb calf with pink eye the other day and discovered the dart never discharged the Draxxin I loaded in it. Any ideas on what I did wrong or if the dart was a dud or whatever? I had to wait for it to fall out of the calf so thought...

    Plumbing question

Initially, we used an adhesive sealer called "Through the Roof". It failed. Then, we used the Loctite Marine adhesive sealer. It failed. This morning, while slopping tar on the plug and everybody growling at each other, I called the company for :help: They told me guys are using Ram-Nek tape...

    Plumbing question

Tire tank update: So far there has been no success in getting the manufactured plugs to seal. We have buffed the tire rim and plug rim with a wire brush on a right angle grinder, wiped both down with acetone. We are using Loctite PL Marine fast curing adhesive and sealant. Running two beads...

    Plumbing question

Nicky, we're guinea pigs on this deal. These plugs are new and the guy selling them threw them in with the tanks. He said to figure it out and let him know what we did to make them work. This morning, we weighted the plug down equal to the weight of the water, put a collar on the plastic pipe as...

    Plumbing question

Yes, we have an elbow but it's in the ground probably 18". The riser pipe extends upward through a hole cut in the plug. We trenched the drain channel, and put in 2" PVC pipe. We have discussed placing a weight on the plug to replicate the water pushing down, gluing the drain pipe at that level...

    Plumbing question

We are in the process of installing several giant rubber water tanks. Generally the center is filled with cement and the water is turned on. The guy selling these tire tanks has found a company making a big hard plastic 'plug' for these tanks. The selling point is, if you ever want or need to...

    Spring Fling on the Desert

Everything FH said. it's a tough deal when what was once "family" is no longer. Been living that one for 11 years. About the time life seems to be getting back some sense of normalcy - a letter from a lawyer appears or a phone call arrives and it's 'game on' again.

    Calving 2016

Yes Traveler, that's my next step. The wire is ready. I'll have to put in a few posts along the way. I have a 12 volt solar. I expect to have it done by the weekend. It's a little over a mile. I don't see any other way to put an end to this short of building new fence and the absentee owner...
