That's what I was thinking. I don't think that bull in the photo was from us. He got a couple each year the last 2 years, and some commercial bred heifers as well last fall. We are working on selling his calves now as well. Really nice family!

Great photos again. Was surprised to see the last photo. Great family, friends, and customers. We have known Bill and the family for years. Brady is the same age as me. Whose Reds are those?

    Around Here

Things look great around here. Probably the best hay crop we have ever had. Fields are making 3 bales or more per acre. Best field we have had yet was 18 acres and it made 80 1300 lbs bales. Our oats looks awesome. When I walk into it, it is right at my elbows and just starting to head out...

    Oats for hay?

If you think you have enough growing time left. Put some roundup on it and plant sorgum in it ASAP. Will make good grazing if not enough height for hay. Oats regrowth has nitrates a lot of the time, but then again so does sorgum if it gets stressed. We just did the same thing with triticale...

    Rain

The last couple summers have been crazy as far as moisture goes. Last summer, starting mid May and ending with the October blizzard, we had 33 inch of rain. So far, since the last week of April, we have had 14 inches of rain. In June alone, we have had right at 10 inches. The pastures and...

A few photos from this past week

No we probably should be, but we need the bales, I think it will all be ground and fed through the feedlot. We have a silage pile that we never opened up this winter, and have 200 acres of corn silage planted again this year. So we should have plenty of silage.

    stormtracker--up to 20" snow, 4" rain

Lots of rain around this area yesterday. Depending on who you talk to, anywhere from 3 to 5 inches. Roads are covered, and all creeks and rivers are flooded. Looks like the storm kept marching on east as their were tornadoes and lots of rain on the east side of the river as well. By the map...

    Calf Prices! WOW!!!

You buyer needs to go to the store and price meat out, and figure out how much more she would be paying if she bought meat at the store pound for pound. They would really be shocked!

    Calf Prices! WOW!!!

We had a customer sell on Superior today so I hung out and watched the sale for a while. These prices are amazing, on all classes of cattle! Our customer sold 5 loads weighing 610 lbs and they got $237.50, and then they sold 1 load weighing 510 lbs and got $257.50! If I remember correct, last...

A good customer from CO just sold on Superior's country page this AM. They will be early Oct delivery, suppose to weigh 650 lbs, and just sold for $2.12. We have another customer from western SD who listed them on the country page as well. I just placed a bid on them on order, weighing 660...

Which sale to put in for?

I was visiting with a bigger order buyer a few weeks ago, he told me his is contracting 600 lbs steers for fall delivery from $1.98 to $2.05. I would venture to guess they will be higher at auction later on, as they don't normally give the top prices off the farm. But I would agree with the...

    Red Angus bull question

I would say he is about average as he doesn't mind us being around him and so far his offspring have been good as well. BUT, not many Angus bulls, red or black, can compare to the disposition of a good Hereford

    Red Angus bull question

From what I have seen, I feel he is one of the better bulls the breeds has seen. We have not used him, but we have a son that we purchased and have used now for 3 seasons. We will use him the hardest of all sires this year. We are hoping to get 100+ calves out of him in our Feb/March group...
