We’re Closer to a Civil War in the West than You Think

Respect is earned, as is trust. The Federal Government neither respects not trusts it's citizens. Tell me why I should give a damn about them.

    Custom Grazing Prices?

LazyWP and WHR, those are the kind of answers I was looking for, thank you. CornstalkCowboy, where are you located? The premise of my questions are that we are penciling a custom graze operation on rented land. We could very well be relocating next year to the South Iowa/Northern Missouri...

    Custom Grazing Prices?

Thanks for the responses. Perhaps I worded the question wrong. I'm trying to find out what is a fair price to contract graze different classes of livestock. Not wanting to create a debate about land values. Sorry for the confusion. bart.

    Custom Grazing Prices?

What are folks paying or charging for custom grazing rates in your area? Either by the AUM or per acre or by month, but please include the stocking rate and the class of livestock. I'm particularly interested in upper Midwest, but this should be good discussion no matter where you're from...

    insurance on lease property

I just got a quote for crop insurance on my cattle, on leased ground. About $600 annually for aprox. $105,000.00 coverage. Does not cover natural causes. Don't know about drought, neighbors around here said their drought coverage wasn't worth squat.

Question for the net-wrapped bale unrollers

Sometimes frozen netwrap wont readily come off, I'll cut it, unroll the bale and then retrieve the wrap, sometimes I have to give it a good shake or 3 for it to dislodge. Maybe this helps, no sunflowers here. bart.

    Freight Costs?

Anybody got a handle on current freight charges for a pot load of cattle, probably less than a 100 mile trip? I'm doing some pre-work for an upcoming Ranching for Profit class in January and need some fairly accurate numbers. Thanks.... bart.

    People's Republic of Boulder flooded

We've gotten about 4" here in the past week. It has been a real nice slow drizzle mostly, soaking in real good. Temps have been upper 40s thru the mid 70s. A welcome relief. :) .

    Selling hay

We sell strictly to a local hay broker. We go ahead and load him out then bill him. Works for both of us, never had a problem. As mentioned above, we've ended up on the short end of the stick buying in hay. Seems to always lose a bunch of quality on the semi ride here :? bart.

    When to sell around holidays

Fuel cost is the reason we never hauled them from Naples up to Ocala. If you look at the pricing, Northern florida pays a lot better, but the fuel will negate that right quick. As was posted earlier, prices do seem to always be up for grass fever in the spring. bart.

    When to sell around holidays

My experience when I lived down in South Florida was that no matter when you sell, you'll walk away from the sale barn feeling like you got raped. Particularly the Arcadia and Okochobee sale barns, to be specific. bart. .
