    Electronic cattle ID

I have never considered it. Not sure what I would do with it. With the current drought conditions I am not looking for any additional expenses.

    Kick in the sore spot

There has been some rain in the dry areas. More is needed but we are really grateful for the moisture we have received. It puts a spring in your step for sure.

Horrible way to loose a dog. Life is not fair for sure.

    Chinese export requirements

Second party verification that the cattle have not been implanted or fed any growth hormones their entire life. They need this verification starting at their place of birth. They will need to be verified for age in this process also.

    Chinese export requirements

Currently cattle have to be NHTC certified to be eligible to export to China. Not very many will qualify unless more people certify them.

Brad, I agree with what you are saying. I find it rather interesting how the press won't use the word ractopamine when covering this story. The pharmaceutical business owns them because of the advertising dollars spent on such drugs.

    Chinese export requirements

I don't think anyone that follows this can be surprised that they are not going to take ractopamine fed beef. They don't take ractopamine fed pork either. They bought the whole Smithfield system from farrow to slaughter for this very reason.

    June cattle

Seriously, equiliribium of demand will be reached at some point. After that we will start backing product up again. Anyone remember the fall of 2015? The price of trucks has little to do with commodity prices. Yes, I own cattle all the way from baby calves to slaughter ready steers.

I wouldn't view breaking the record as all positive. Consumers will replace beef at some price level. It would be better long term if we were to plateau some time soon.

Gee thanks for forecasting more dry for us. Stays like this over half the cows will have to leave the area.

    Drought actions & advice?

I wouldn't be afraid to let the wheat head out. If you have farm ground a person can raise a lot of feed as it is still early. I think when it comes to destocking that there are a lot of variables that different operations have to deal with. Yearlings for example can be moved, drylotted, fed out...

    Cow ?

Cold rain can chill a calf faster than you may realize. The smaller the calf the faster they become hypothermic. Likely no fault of the cow or calf or the feeding program.

Using CIDRs to Improve Pregnancy Rates

i prefer the select sync protocol and skip the cider. A little more work yes but I feel I get more cows pregnant in shorter timeline with fewer opens. Not for everyone I know but it works well here. It is cheaper also.

    Running numbers

I don't necessarily think pasture rent will come down much if any. I know it depends on your landlord relationship but most of us will have to find the fat some where else or let the pasture go. Plenty of grazers looking for grass as too much has been farmed over the last ten years.

    Smaller Isn't Always Better

All things considered, every operation is a little different but I do think most operations are birthing calves that are too small. Too big has dire consequences. I personally am happier with a bull calf in the 90 to 100 lb. range than one less than 80. Birth weights strongly follow cow families...

    border collie puppies

MRI, till you have seen one in action you won't understand, I once was on your side of the fence. I never grew up around a real working dog. I shudder to think what mine might be if he had a real trainer. The cattle handle totally different after they are exposed to dogs it is really hard to...

A rational response to Tomi Lahrens COOL video

My problem with the vfd is we can no longer feed rumensin with chlorotetracycline even with a prescription. We will have to discontinue our liquid supplement that has the rumensin before we can feed any ctc. I wonder who got paid off on this deal? Looks really fishy to me. For those who...

That they did. Nice to see the wealth spread around a bit. Here we are hoping the South Dakotan can hit the pay window a couple of times yet. Tough competition for sure.
