They live on very little feed and strain the water through their teeth. There is clean water, but they will drink just about anything. The BLM will cut their numbers down in July. Mustangs and pictures will be a lot harder to find.

It was hot and dry, but the mustangs looked good. Very few baby's. The BLM is going to do a big gather in July. I've heard they are going to give us back about 100 head.

Most of them have wintered well. Five or six babies out of 150 head.

Dry and dusty. Plenty of water for the Mustangs. Gypsy's fifth colt with his band of mares.

Antelope don't always cooperate. It's easier when water is scarce.

Today I'd like to Feature the Twins. Actually they are not twins, they are Uncle/Nephew. When they were born we couldn't tell them apart. The BLM got the Big Twin in their last gather. The Little Twin hasn't been seen for about two years.

Mustangs

These pictures are from a year ago. I don't agree with the weather we are having.

No fights, nothing, they just stood around soaking up the sun. Note the colt nursing that is just as big as its mother. Also note the buckskin. It has two white hind feet. Peanut has only one. I found another fifty head on the Hard Pan. There was no color there so I didn't even stop.

Peanut with his mother Gypsy and a lot of dust. I think Peanut is the best looking mustang on the Desert. The Desert is exceptionally dry this year. The dust is so deep we are waiting for a storm before we go again.

Hunting snow to eat, the water is too far away.

All these mustangs are either Peanut, his sister or brothers.
