Texan- I believe you have a crush on me...But I have to break it to you, I'm not that kind of fella
You seem to worry more about me- and bashing me than you do the facts..As my old buddy Marc used to say- "when thats their only argument, then you know you got them by the shorthairs "
Oldtimer, are you really sure that you want to discuss "the facts"? Your posts have become full of half-truths, inconsistencies, hypocrisies and even outright lies. It's not only me, but several others here have also been pointing those things out. Not because we're "bashing" you, but because we've grown weary of those things.
You can consider it "bashing" if that makes you feel less dishonest. But whatever you consider it, YOU have the power to stop it.

Since the Clinton/Bush sell out of the country to China- there are many products that you absolutely can't find made in the USA anymore...
I haven't quit living- so I know some of my dollars goes to China--but I make every attempt to buy American....
You can continue to try to blame it on somebody else if that makes you feel better, but the truth is that we would have a much greater selection of products that aren't made in China if our consumers had not been so eager to buy them because they were cheaper. Almost all of the Chinese stuff is labeled, but most people are more concerned with price than with origin.
For your information, there are still rubber boots available that are made in the U.S. I bought some just last winter, so I know that they are out there. You just have to look harder to find them. And maybe be willing to pay a little more for them - not a problem for me, because I will gladly spend a little more to keep my money at home. And I don't doubt for a minute that you are normally the same way.
And there are many cheaper brands of Chinese rubber boots that are similar to the Muck boots. And yes, I've bought some of those before, too. But given the choice of spending $75 for a pair of Chinese rubber boots, or spending $35 for something comparable, it's not much of a decision for me. I don't need the government to help me make that decision.
Imagine what things would be like in this country if
everybody had looked harder for ways to send only half of the money to China that we had sent? I don't need President Bush to tell me that I can do my part to help the trade deficit without the government.
If consumers spent only half of the money on Chinese products that they are spending now, it would make a significant impact on that trade deficit, wouldn't it? But for some people, it seems to be easier to whine and blame others instead of being proactive and looking harder to find a comparable American-made product. Or even looking for a cheaper Chinese alternative.
Of course, I'm sure YOU probably wouldn't want to try to get by with something cheaper, anyway. Since you're somewhat of an
elitist globalist neosocialist, I'm sure you have to have only the very best.
