Some Quick Thoughts on Wealth Redistribution
1) Universal HealthCare is a veiled way of paying for the unfunded $10T (much bigger longer term) in entitlements over the next seven years promised the Boomer generation. Add the illegal aliens now permanently residing here and not paying taxes. Like many policies pursued by Washington, the lipstick says to the uneducted that we'll all have free health coverage. Good for Americans, good for the citizenship, Washington creates efficiencies to eliminate waste and corruption. Great idea, right? Wrong.
a) Since when does government NOT waste massive resources in an attempt to solve a problem?
b) I have seen first-hand 'Socialized' medical care. Why do you think much of the Western World (that can afford) it comes to the U.S. for advanced or life-saving treatments?
I prefer to continue self-educating myself and applying this knowledge to grow my personal income and have the best private coverage health insurance I can get. I do not prefer allowing a beaurocrat deciding whether I live or die. Nor do I desire to spend potentially productive hours in a waiting room, where every Tom Dick and Harry will now come in to check out there razor burn because it's now 'free'. My suggestion: Cut off all medical care for illegal aliens. Come in legally, then we'll talk. I have no qualms with increasing legal immigration. Fund only life-saving medicines and procedures for retiring Boomers. Being in the space, I can say that there are a few items no longer fully covered under Medicaire as was in 2007 and 2008. Be honest to the Boomer generation.
c) The only benefit I actually see of universal healthcare provides is leveling the playing field between large corporations and small business. Large corporations have more resources to offer health insurance as a benefit to obtain and retain talent.
That said, government could do it's job as policemen on fraud, saving consumers $30 B a year by doing it's job we pay them to do. Open up drug competition internationally. Finally, the middle men of this country make far too much and offer far too litte value to be taking 50% gross margin of ANYTHING, especially insurance providers. Brokers should make 20% pushing paper. Government can assist in a restructuring effort on the above mentioned, it need to assume a direct role of insurer of semi-forced choice.
2) Tax the 2%, Wealthy
a) Mathematically impossible already to fund $10T due in the next seven years of entitlement problems
b) Disincentive to the population to reach higher tax brackets spurring lack-luster economic recovery and permanent mediocrity.
c) Good luck attempting to tax those whom have the knowledge and resources to shield against taxation.
The tax code is a mess. This would be an entire group discussion, debate. Those with knowledge should start at group here at The Burning Platform for discussion on that topic.
Business people have very serious questions whether if they earn over $250,000 and the proposed tax increase. First of all, that is NOT just the 2% being taxed to pay for entitlements repeatedly mentioned by the Administration, it is 11 million businesses with the same question: Does my aggregate gross corporate revenue put me above $250,000 and will I be taxed? I have yet to hear a firm answer but the silence on the subject is disconcerting.
This current attitude stinks by this Administration and 1/2 of our population. The other 1/2 are like us, who produce, innovate, perform and sacrifice. The real solution is in elections. Elections have consequences. Our job in the business and investment community must be to make truthful information easily available to the common citizen, Democratic, Republican or Independent. The ways and means must further be created to reach the masses online as old media hangs itself. Innovators are leading the charge to connect the masses. But more important is our message of We the People to our citizenship and the globe going forward. That unified message needs to be discussed, then debated and voted on and actionable plans presented to Washington. If the majority no longer rules and we as a collective group fail at election season to remove the corrupt and inept, then surely a physical revolution will occur. I prefer we restore our Republic the easier way
