Market Review - July 31, 2007 - 1272 Head
Although the large cattle runs across California are nearing an end for the season, we continued to offer a good selection of all types of cattle on our sale this Tuesday. We sold 1272 head for 83 consignors this week, with cattle consigned from as far north as Manchester off the Del Mar Farm to down to Greenfield .
Slaughter cows and bulls continue to come to market, mostly due to the extreme dry conditions and a steady high butcher demand; once again we sold over 200 cows and bulls again this week.
We also had a nice selection of pairs and bred cows this week, mostly selling to out-of-state buyers.
Steer and heifer calves once again sold for steady money to greener pastures in Colorado , Kansas , Nebraska , and Texas . Yearlings also sold steady with last week; San Felipe Ranch of San Jose sold their penlot of 364# steers at 124.00. Tim Leeke Jr. of Salinas was happy to see his choice 383# weaned steers sell for 124.00. Lois Acquistapace of Hollister watched as her 409# black steer calves sold for 121.00 to a buyer from Texas . Doc’s Land and Cattle of Soledad sold a penlot of 513# steers at 115.00. Lue Ellen Zgragen of Paicines watched as her 453# steers sold for 114.00. James DeMartin of Petaluma sold his 570# steers for 111.50. Tim Furlong of Tomales sold a penlot of 609# steers at 110.25; his 664# heifer mates brought 100.00; Tim’s heavier 760# steers brought 106.00.
One of the top sales of the day came when Mitt French of Hollister sold a fancy load of 69 Angus and Charlolais-Angus x weaned steers weighing 711# for 110.50. These ranch raised steers were weaned, had an excellent vaccination program along with the EID source verified ear tags and went to a Colorado feedlot.
