RIP Giggles

Two weeks ago, Ray Schulze was working in a barn at the Society of St. Francis no-kill animal shelter in Kenosha, Wis., when officials swarmed the shelter with a search warrant.

“There were nine Department of Natural Resources agents and four deputy sheriffs, and they were all armed to the teeth,” Mr. Schulze told WISN 12. “It was like a SWAT team.”

The agents were there to retrieve a baby deer named Giggles that was dropped off by a family worried she had been abandoned by her mother, the station reported. Wisconsin law forbids the possession of wildlife.

“I said the deer is scheduled to go to the wildlife reserve the next day,” Mr. Schulze told the station. “I was thinking in my mind they were going to take the deer and take it to a wildlife shelter, and here they come carrying the baby deer over their shoulder. She was in a body bag. I said, ‘Why did you do that?’ He said, ‘That’s our policy,’ and I said, ‘That’s one hell of a policy.’”

Department of Natural Resources Supervisor Jennifer Niemeyer told WISN 12 that the law requires DNR agents to euthanize wild animals because of their potential danger.

The station asked if the raid could have been done in a less costly manner by making a phone call first.

“If a sheriff’s department is going in to do a search warrant on a drug bust, they don’t call them and ask them to voluntarily surrender their marijuana or whatever drug that they have before they show up,” the supervisor responded.

Shelter president Cindy Schultz said she plans to sue the agency.

“They went way over the top for a little, tiny, baby deer,” Miss Schultz said.

I bet they were disappointed they didn't get a chance to kick in the teeth of that receptionist.....most likely a closet anarchist.

13 deputies to kill a fawn... Wonder how long it took to prep for that and then carry out and the write up. Lets say 2 hours... That is 26 man hours to kill a fawn. Good stuff.

This is bad.

You know who else dressed their law enforcement on black?

Sometimes you just want to find the one person who gave this order and pinch his/her friggin head off.

There is no common sense in law enforcement anymore and it is not the honorable profession it once was.

My wife just explained it all, and it makes sense. Fawns are very small and quick on their feet. Less than 13 Barny Fifes may have completely missed or only wounded the fawn with their pumped up adrenaline for such a high octane bust.

Don't you like how an animal rescue is equally dangerous as a drug dealer, I can surely see the connection.

Mike, as you're aware, these types of situations are becoming more and more frequent. And it's not just a lack of common sense, it's actually related to that same issue we've discussed often, the militarization of the local police forces. Too much of US law enforcement today has been infected with an us-against-them mentality and believe they have to go into every situation with overwhelming force because "they could be armed and dangerous".

Think that's just crazy talk? It's not.

For instance, I long wondered how our own beloved and esteemed ex-sheriff from Valley County could habor such fear and hatred for an otherwise innocuous group like the national Tea Party. To hear him, one would think they're overrun with skin-heads, neo-nazis, anarchists, and mass murderers. Because, according to him, he had run-ins with some of those low-lifes, and years later a few of them attached themselves to a tea party organization, then the entire movement is bad. Us-against-them.

Now think about it. A friggin' animal shelter with a mission of not euthanizing its animals and they feel the need to send in 13 armed officers equipped like a swat team for a gd spotted fawn.

How about sending a single female wildlife agent who knocks at the door, asks to speak privately with the administrator of the place....explains that the law does not allow for private citizens to be in possession of wildlife and then asks that they turn the animal over to the department of wildlife?

The country's going mad little by little, day by day.

the response by the game control and the local police is totally out of line and lacking any common sense...

“We took it of course and we made arrangements to transfer the deer to an animal reserve in Illinois,” she said. “The day before she was supposed to leave, we had the raid.”

the staff had common sense.. they knew they couldn't legally keep it so they made arrangements with another shelter authorized to keep the animal...

but the article then shows how ridiculous the authorities are..
According to a state affidavit, the DNR had been conducting aerial and ground surveillance in advance of the raid searching for an “illegally-held live captive Whitetail deer.”

“We didn’t know they were doing surveillance,” she said. “Five days before the raid, a DNR agent was hiding in the woods by our shelter watching the deer walk in and out of the barn.”

Schultz said agents rounded up the shelter’s nine staff members and detained them for nearly three hours as they searched for Giggles.

aerial surveillance for a fawn... really.. searched three hours for giggles.. did they check the barn?

Agents eventually found Giggles in the barn. two agents killed the deer in the barn and stuffed her in a body bag

gees.. no crime scene photos? no chalk outline in the straw?

what kind of investigation is this,.. just shoot and stuff..

oh,.. now they claim they didn't shoot it...
But DNR Supervisor Jennifer Niemeyer denies that Giggles was killed at the animal shelter.

She told television station WISN the deer was tranquilized and killed at another location.

ah,... that really isn't a better answer.. it is just a bit lame and cruel...

And that’s not the only thing the DNR agents took. They also discovered a Canadian goose – lounging by the shelter’s pond.

“The goose had been living there for eight years,” Schultz said. “But they grabbed it and said we couldn’t have it on our property.”

“This is so bizarre it’s almost unbelievable,” Schultz said. “They’ve apparently got nothing else to do in Wisconsin.”

dang I hope they don't come out here they would **** thier pants at all those illegal geese at private ponds and yards,.. We are overrun with those darn semi domesticated Canadian geese ,.. they just sit around and crap the county up.. (we call them the french Canadian geese.. )

this is just plain ridicules jaw dropping stupid in fact... that authorities would act this way.. over a fawn.. and a goose.

could you imagine the pre-brief.. the suspect is a tan and white abandoned critter.. who could grow up and be dangerous.. and may have an accomplice that goes by the alias of wild goose.. so gear up boys.. make sure you have your Sunday ballistic vests on.. we is goin huntin..

From the highest power Washington politicians down to TSA screeners, dogcatchers and local police, it's all about power over someone or something.

Take OT for example, he has no power over any of us here, so he resorts to calling some mentally disturbed and dropping dimes on others. Even if it's a lie. It's a sickness and an addiction. He cannot be at peace with himself so he needs to feel some power and control.

How did we get to a militarized police force, simple, the war on drugs. Govt. has always used prohibition to grow its bureaucracies and erode our rights. These so called illegal drugs have been used to trash our constitution and lead us into believing that self victimization is far worse than victimizing another person, how else do you con the people into surrendering the bill of rights.
