Here are Obama’s thoughts on the debt limit in 2006, when he voted against increasing the ceiling:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

now that's about the first thing I've ever heard atributed to obama that I can agree with!
he must have "misspoke" :D

And just how many trillions has Obama allowed deficit cutting hounds Pelosi and Reid to tack onto the debt since he took the White House? Wasn't it over 5 trillion. TALK ABOUT A LACK OF LEADERSHIP.
Obama has spent more in two years than Bush did in 8 years, but not a word from those that b*tched about Bush's spending spree.

But rest assured THERE WILL BE A DISASTEROUS EFFECT if Obama doesn't get his credit card limit raised just like there would have been if he didn't get his stimulus package, healthcare, ominbus bill, budget, and every other big spending bill that tacked on that 5 trillion and has bankrupt the US Economy. When will the left realize enough is enough and big spending has to stop and ALL spending has to be cut? :x

If the Dems want the debt limit raised and the government to not shut down the Republicans should link the repeal of Obamacare to it. Obamacare is repealed or the debt limit raise is denied. Just how much will Obama and the Dems risk to keep their job killing signature bill? :?

Faced with a potential government shutdown, the Senate votes to raise the nation's debt limit for the fourth time in five years. The bill passed by a 52-48 vote, increasing the ceiling to $9 trillion. The bill now goes to the president.

The debt now stands at more than $8.2 trillion.

When President Bush took office five years ago, the national debt was at $5.6 trillion; since then, big budget surpluses have collapsed into huge deficits, and the debt has shot up nearly 50 percent.

when you have a lack of leadership, and a legislature with the same agenda you get waste..

U.S. Debt Ceiling raised again
Posted on July 28, 2008 by Administrator| 2 Comments

On Saturday the Senate passed the new “housing rescue” bill with almost no debate. And in case you missed it, it gives Treasury Secretary virtually unfettered power to saddle the taxpayers for generations to come with another roughly trillion dollars of debt. (According to the NY Times, “the only real limit on the Treasury’s authority is the new $10.6 trillion debt ceiling. There is roughly a $1.1 trillion cushion between the new limit and existing federal debt of $9.5 trillion”).

but when you get a lack of leadership and a democratic legislature, you get more waste...

Senate must raise debt ceiling above $12T
By Walter Alarkon - 09/07/09 11:11 AM ET

The Senate must move legislation to raise the federal debt limit beyond $12.1 trillion by mid-October, a move viewed as necessary despite protests about the record levels of red ink.

The move will highlight the nation’s record debt, which has been central to Republican attacks against Democratic congressional leaders and President Barack Obama. The year’s deficit is expected to hit a record $1.6 trillion.

but in one year? .. when you get a failure of leadership and a democratic legislature, you get mega waste!!! ...

under the Bush leadership it climbed less then a half trillion a year.. (lack of leadership?)

how will is it now two years under the Obama leadership it now need to go to 14 trillion? (two trillion a year?)

is my math wrong or is that a total failure of leadership?

Well all we can hope for is that with the last two years of lack of leadership from the First Black President and the First Woman Speaker of the House the US can survive and pull the itself back from the brink in bankruptcy. :???:

Pelosi is spewing her lies about doing what the voters wanted again today and THANK GOD ALMIGHTY it is the last time as the Speaker of the House. And Pray IF the Dems ever get back in control of the House they have learned their lesson and will not ever reseat her.

How fitting that Pelosi handed over the monster gavel she used to bring Obamacare into law since one of the first bills that will pass the House will likely be the repeal of Obamacare. And I hope Boehner walks it across the parking lot in full view of the liberal press and uses it to swear the repeal bill passed.

WASHINGTON -- In power scarcely a day, House Republicans bluntly told the White House on Thursday its request to raise the nation's $14.3 trillion debt limit will require federal spending cuts to win their approval, laying down an early marker in a new era of divided government.

Speaker John Boehner made the challenge as the new GOP majority voted to cut funding for House members' own offices and committee operations by $35 million. Rank and file Republicans described that vote as a mere down payment on a much more ambitious assault on record federal deficits.

"It's not massive," first-term Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., said of Thursday's cut. "But it is monumental."

At a news conference, Boehner, R-Ohio, also said emphatically he was standing by a pre-election pledge to cut government spending by at least $100 billion this year. "No ifs, ands or buts about it," he said, despite recent comments from other Republicans the total might be overly ambitious.

The Republicans who took control of the House on Wednesday include dozens of newcomers elected last fall with the support of TEA party activists eager for a smaller, less intrusive government. And Thursday's events suggested a bone-jarring struggle could be mere weeks away as conservative lawmakers use the Treasury's need for more borrowing authority to try and extract concessions from President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats.

That didn't take long! hope it lasts!! :D

say whatever happened to that $100 M obam promised to cut from spending? Did it ever happen?? if so where?

Gates announced cuts to Defence by $78 billion the other day. He also announced more troops to Afganistan and a new Obama ordered Intelligents Centre, so one has to wonder where he is going to get that $78 billion from to cut it? I hear he plans on upping the Health insurance Premiums on retired vets of working age to cover some of it. Young men and women risk their lives for the US and the first cut the government can find is in their Healthcare premiums. One has to wonder just how many retired politicians and Government union employees will be asked to cut their benefits for the good of the budget?

BTW I reposted Obama's little quote to see if our resident liberals would comment and guess what NO GO. I guess the Debt Ceiling in not an issue under the LEADERSHIP of their hero.

Good article on this subject.

I agree with Geithner, but I also agree with Boehner.

"The American people will not stand for such an increase unless it is accompanied by meaningful action by the president and Congress to cut spending and end the job-killing spending binge in Washington," Boehner said in a statement. "While America cannot default on its debt, we also cannot continue to borrow recklessly, dig ourselves deeper into this hole and mortgage the future of our children and grandchildren."

I'm still liking Paul Ryan and his thoughts. He was on Mark Levin the other night and talked about the debt ceiling, repeal of obamacare and a couple of other topics. It's well worth the time to listen to.

One real interesting part of the interview, is how the Dems. fudged the numbers that the CBO have released concerning obamacare.

The first 10 minutes is Mark speaking about the Constitution. He starts to interview Paul Ryan at about the 11 min. mark.

For those that have not listened to one of Mark's podcasts before, you can slide the play meter (beside the pause button) to the point where you want to start listening.

President Obama also is committed to deficit reduction, but Treasury officials said work on the deficit should occur separately from talks over extending the debt limit.

Administration officials say such views appear to reflect a deep misunderstanding of the consequences of default, and the White House has in recent days sought to head it off.

It seems the "administration" has had quite a few "misunderstandings"..

it looks a bit like the blind leading the blind over the last two years... (and that is putting it kindly)
