Feed outfit on the Broken Box
Closeupview.jpg

Close-up view. The stackmover hauls a full load of big round bales. The hydra-fork arm is stout enough to push a bale off the mover. Then the tractor backs up to get lined up to push the bale with the dozer blade. The roller device on top of the dozer blade is designed to drop down and spin the bale to unroll it. The system looks pretty slick, and sure did a nice job of scattering the bale out for a long ways. No hay will get wasted with this impressive feed outfit.

My dad and his new wife. It was my dad's suggestion many years ago that the Sandhills Cattle Association have a ranch tour. Director's of the organization were skeptical of having this event in January. My dad assured them that it would work. They haven't had to cancel one yet on account of the weather, and Dad has been on all eighteen of the tours, which are held in different areas each year.

Super pictures, all. Neat that this was your dad's idea and he hasn't missed one of them.

Do I detect a HOT TUB on the side of your house?

Yup. It's not a very cowboy thing to have in your back yard. Peach is the one who uses it. :)

When I was there, Jerry Adamson raised em black, and Rex had a fancy string of Herfords. I see Rex has gone black now, like the Morelands. You are blessed to have such an active organization there. Our tours are not annual, and might get 15 or 20 cars. Keep up the good work.

Now don't ya know that hottubs were designed for "real" cowboys..??? The cows got tired of sharing their tanks with them ole cowboys who were soaking their bones after a long day....lol Great turnout on the tour...

This is going to sound like a stuped question but I got to know. On those remote ranches to they have power run in there or do they have to make their own?
And thanks for the tour.

And thanks for the tour.

The REA (Rural Electrification Administration) put lines into this country back in the 'fifties. We have more or less been civilized ever since.

The reason I ask was that my daughter was looking at some land about 2 miles from a power line. When we ask the power co. if they would run power, they said that we would have to pay to have the line run in. It seems that the power co. will only pay to set one poll for new service.

In this part of SD, at least, it does cost so much per mile to put NEW lines in. If we wanted to build a home or ranch project requiring power, we would have to pay the cost of installing lines. It is very expensive.

We should be able to put in our own wind power plants and sell the excess power to the power company out here, but I believe the REA's, or at least some of them, are fighting this. If they allow it, it is fairly recent, as I KNOW they didn't a few years ago.

Similar situation exists with rural water. Those who signed up for it years ago and paid a fee can get it to the location(s) they applied for, but if you need it elsewhere, you pay the costs and assume liability for repairs and water leaks on your lines.
