USA: Hundreds arrested at immigration rally
Up to 200 people, including eight Congress members, have been arrested by police for blocking the street directly in front of the Capitol building during an immigration rally on Tuesday in Washington D.C.
Thousands flocked to the National Mall, despite being closed due to the partial government shutdown, to march for immigration reform. The demonstration follows immigration reform rallies held in about 150 cities nation-wide across the weekend
Even though the National Mall was officially closed because of the budget battle in Congress, the Camino Americano march was granted a permit

Nearby, the World War II Memorial, which became a flashpoint in the budget battle last week, remained behind barricades, access is not prevented.
Still, Republicans accused President Barack Obama of playing politics with veterans and immigrants.
“This is just another example of how the Obama administration puts the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of U.S. citizens,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio.
