I finally got 180-some pictures, loaded onto my computer, and then a few in my photobucket, so thought I'd share them with you guys.
Al digging some grass plants for his Range Plant Management entry for 4-H.
Thursday morning, all the critters that went to the fair, loaded and ready to roll.
The "official" weigh and measure-in.......Wheezer made 1,068# and 51.5" height at hip, putting him in the Medium-Short class of steers.
The guys helped these girls load a pig into the scale, to see if it had made the min of 210#........he weighed 225#. The shorter girl is the owner, one of our 4-Hers from here. Needless to say, she was very happy about the weight.
Hubby and one of my ex-hunnies, hanging a tarp to shade the pigs.
Al's "girls" comfortably reclined in their pen.
Thursday afternoon, Wheezer got picked to be one of four steers for the judging contest they have for the kids.......he's between the shorthorn steer (who ended up winning Grand in the county bred show) and the black cross steer. Our CA is on the left side, and one of the show judges on the right.
Bathing Bovines.
Wheezer drip-drying while Al worked on Bandi.
Entering 12 Range Plants, which won a blue ribbon and is going to the state fair next month.
And with his shooting sports entry, Allowing for Wind and Gravity, another blue ribbon winner, also going to state fair.
For Vet Science, he did a poster showing the best places to give cattle shots, called Bovine Injection Sites. Another blue and another state fair entry.
An entry for his horse project, Horseman's Knots......another blue and headed north to Albuquerque for the state fair.
Last but not least, his third place Dutch Oven Biscuits. They tasted good, but were pretty "squatty".......
Bovines waiting for the shows. Al uses his Scotch comb on himself, since he forgot his at home.........lol
Into the ring with Wheezer.
Set up and waiting their turn for inspection.
With the third place heifer. The grand this year was a huge heifer, you can just see a little of her on the left side of the pic. She was so heavy, she was crippled on the back end. Not my personal choice for Grand, but then, I wasn't the judge, either. Guess we just have different opinions......that heifer wouldn't last in our rough country.
Cleaning the calves' places while they were at the trailer eating.
Breakfast for the pigs on Friday morning.
Showering Swine.
Showing the 7th place lightweight Hampshire (not a great pic of either of them, but the best I got.....hard to run the digital camera and the video camera simultaneously...........)
Al (way over there........) and the 4th place lightweight cross pig (that's her backside behind that other kid there). This is about the only picture I have them both in.........
Al and his buyer for this year, pictured with the 4th place Medium-Short steer, Wheezer MacGeezer. Our State Representative, Don Tripp, also bought Al's Duroc gilt last year........
Packer price on Wheezer was $907.80, but Mr. Tripp paid quite a bit more at $2,400.00, and is looking forward to lots of good steaks this winter.
Just had to include my personal favorite, Al thanking Mr. Tripp for buying Wheezer. Just before I snapped this pic, Mr. Tripp was smiling, too......got it on video, but not on still camera......
Took Bandi down and turned her out with the others this morning, so here's a pic of 2/3 of Al's cow herd.........his 2 year old, Tillie, and his yearling, Bandi.
