I finally got 180-some pictures, loaded onto my computer, and then a few in my photobucket, so thought I'd share them with you guys.

Image-1424.jpg

Al digging some grass plants for his Range Plant Management entry for 4-H.

Image-1425.jpg

Thursday morning, all the critters that went to the fair, loaded and ready to roll.

Image-1433.jpg

The "official" weigh and measure-in.......Wheezer made 1,068# and 51.5" height at hip, putting him in the Medium-Short class of steers.

Image-1442.jpg

The guys helped these girls load a pig into the scale, to see if it had made the min of 210#........he weighed 225#. The shorter girl is the owner, one of our 4-Hers from here. Needless to say, she was very happy about the weight.

Image-1444.jpg

Hubby and one of my ex-hunnies, hanging a tarp to shade the pigs.

Image-1447.jpg

Al's "girls" comfortably reclined in their pen.

Image-1439.jpg

Thursday afternoon, Wheezer got picked to be one of four steers for the judging contest they have for the kids.......he's between the shorthorn steer (who ended up winning Grand in the county bred show) and the black cross steer. Our CA is on the left side, and one of the show judges on the right.

Bathing Bovines.

Image-1461.jpg

Wheezer drip-drying while Al worked on Bandi.

Image-1465.jpg

Entering 12 Range Plants, which won a blue ribbon and is going to the state fair next month.

Image-1466.jpg

And with his shooting sports entry, Allowing for Wind and Gravity, another blue ribbon winner, also going to state fair.

Image-1467.jpg

For Vet Science, he did a poster showing the best places to give cattle shots, called Bovine Injection Sites. Another blue and another state fair entry.

Image-1468.jpg

An entry for his horse project, Horseman's Knots......another blue and headed north to Albuquerque for the state fair.

Image-1469.jpg

Last but not least, his third place Dutch Oven Biscuits. They tasted good, but were pretty "squatty".......

Image-1471.jpg

Bovines waiting for the shows. Al uses his Scotch comb on himself, since he forgot his at home.........lol

Image-1481.jpg

Into the ring with Wheezer.

Image-1485.jpg

Set up and waiting their turn for inspection.

Image-1491.jpg

With the third place heifer. The grand this year was a huge heifer, you can just see a little of her on the left side of the pic. She was so heavy, she was crippled on the back end. Not my personal choice for Grand, but then, I wasn't the judge, either. Guess we just have different opinions......that heifer wouldn't last in our rough country.

Cleaning the calves' places while they were at the trailer eating.

Image-1496.jpg

Breakfast for the pigs on Friday morning.

Image-1505.jpg

Showering Swine.

Image-1537.jpg

Showing the 7th place lightweight Hampshire (not a great pic of either of them, but the best I got.....hard to run the digital camera and the video camera simultaneously...........)

Image-1557.jpg

Al (way over there........) and the 4th place lightweight cross pig (that's her backside behind that other kid there). This is about the only picture I have them both in.........

Image-1547.jpg

Al and his buyer for this year, pictured with the 4th place Medium-Short steer, Wheezer MacGeezer. Our State Representative, Don Tripp, also bought Al's Duroc gilt last year........
Packer price on Wheezer was $907.80, but Mr. Tripp paid quite a bit more at $2,400.00, and is looking forward to lots of good steaks this winter.

Image-1564.jpg

Just had to include my personal favorite, Al thanking Mr. Tripp for buying Wheezer. Just before I snapped this pic, Mr. Tripp was smiling, too......got it on video, but not on still camera......

Image-1597.jpg

Took Bandi down and turned her out with the others this morning, so here's a pic of 2/3 of Al's cow herd.........his 2 year old, Tillie, and his yearling, Bandi.

Looks like you have some pretty grasslands........

I always loved the NM State Fair. I always spent most my time in the stock barns and the home/4H/FFA exhibits as I never was all that fond of the rides and the crowds around the commercial areas.......its been a while since I was there though. Last time I was there, I was wandering around while the kids spent their money on rides and bad food when I heard a fella singing. So I found this little courtyard set up with folding chairs facing a small portale. There was a cowboy playing a guitar and singing to no one at all. So I sat down, listened for a while, got to talking to him and found out he was a rodeo rider. Bought a couple of tapes from him after visiting for a while. He ended up getting pretty famous as a singer..........six months before he died, I saw Chris at the Tulsa Stampede and said hi......he still remembered me from Albuquerque and that was nearly 15 years ago.

Aren't county fairs fun?...With all of Al's entries sure hope he had time to enjoy himself. Congrads to him on all of his winnings and sure hope he does just as good at the state fair! Thanks for all the pictures...I can tell how proud you are of him, as you should be. :)

Goodpasture, that's awesome! I have just about every CD that Chris made.......he was really a talented guy, and I miss him coming out with something new. I know what you mean about the rides, and such. Sure glad that our CA is taking the entries up, sure don't want to have to fit the State Fair into our already-too-busy schedule.

Jassy, he did have fun, but got sick Saturday. I took him to the doc yesterday, and he's on Zithromax for strep.........poor kid. He hasn't felt like doing much since the sale on Saturday morning.

nenmrancher, he sure is! He's really good, too. One fun part of the fair was having 3 of our last 4 CAs all together.......John H. (from back in the olden days when I was in 4-H), Doug B. and Tracy D.
