2011 breakevens

Wondering if anyone else has run the numbers on what your projected breakevens will be this year. My best guess for my 550 lb calves is $99.61/cwt, not including return to management. I'm curious how that compares to other outfits.

We always shoot to keep the costs below $450/cow/year. This sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't. With the way diesel, fertilizer and grain is going, I am thinking that is going to be higher this year

Next years spring wheat (not even in ground yet) is already being contracted a $9 a bushel.... :)

What amount do you figure for cow depreciation?

I figure 10% turnover on my own cows - $850 culls replaced with $1400 replacement heifers. I don't know how other guys do it. Most of the cows I run are on share and the other guy takes care of maintaining cow numbers, so I don't figure depreciation on them.

I figure I might get more than $850 for the culls, and it doesn't actually cost me $1400 to raise a bred heifer, but I like to leave myself a nice cushion. And the way the market is here, my commercial angus bred heifers probably would bring $1400 if I was to sell them.
