2nd Amendment Protest

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -
An estimated 1,000 people took to the streets of Idaho Falls in support of 2nd Amendment rights on Saturday.

The group's organizers say the massive demonstration isn't exclusively about guns -- it's about freedom.

“Are all of you Americans?” shouted organizer Chad Christensen, to a resounding response from the crowd.

The large crowd crossed the Broadway Bridge in downtown Idaho Falls in a trek from the Bonneville County courthouse to the Shilo Inn.

“This isn't about guns, I believe,” said Christensen. “It's about our freedom and our liberty and our childrens’ future.”

Through city streets, marchers took their message -- one mixed with support for second amendment principles, and protest of President Obama's gun control measures.

“Gun control itself misses the mark,” said marcher Bryant Beasley.

Beasley marched with his gun. He said he's passionate about leaving the 2nd Amendment the way it's written to remain the same.

“Criminals are more afraid of someone with a gun than without a gun,” he said.

The Shilo Inn marked the end of the line for marchers. There, organizers gathered signatures.

“The petition we are signing is to tell legislators about our plan to stand up against gun control,” said Christensen.

Christensen said he hopes a massive turnout will get lawmakers to pay attention.

“There were a lot of people here,” said marcher Mary Williams.

McCain expects broad support for universal background checks

Sen. John McCain said Sunday he expects there'll be broad support in the Senate for a new bipartisan plan to broaden background checks on gun purchasers.

The Arizona Republican pointed to a plan being drafted by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) that is expected to focus chiefly on overhauling background checks to ensure all prospective owners' histories are vetted. That proposal is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.

"I think most of us will be able to support" that plan, McCain said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

McCain's comments are the latest indication that the background checks element of President Barack Obama's broad gun control agenda is probably the only measure that stands a chance of becoming law.

Mark Kelly, the former astronaut and husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who is taking a lead role advocating for tougher gun laws, said on the same program there's "momentum" in Congress behind universal background checks.

Background checks without registration, or tracking of a particular gun, can have no meaningful impact. There are way too many resources for getting false ID's.

11 Million Illegal Immigrants have false ID's and trick the system everyday.

GOP lawmakers propose $30 million a year to fund Cops in Schools program

By Pete Kasperowicz - 02/18/13 12:53 PM ET

Freshman Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and six other House Republicans have proposed legislation that would spend $30 million a year on federal grants to help put police officers in schools across the country.

The Protect America's Schools Act is a reaction to the December shooting at a Connecticut elementary school that left 20 children dead. After that shooting, National Rifle Association President Wayne LaPierre suggested that children in schools be protected by armed guards, and Meadows's bill would appear to be a step in that direction.

"According to a recent Gallup poll, 53 percent of Americans believe that increasing police presence at schools would be very effective in preventing future tragedies," Meadows said last week. "After speaking to local law enforcement, superintendents and principals in my district, I believe this is the best path forward."

His bill, H.R. 751, would fund the Cops in Schools grant program, which has not been funded since 2005. Up to $30 million per year could be distributed in grants to help states afford the placement of police in schools.

Meadows said this spending would be offset with unspent funds from the operations budget of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Meadows said his bill is "bipartisan" because the program was first proposed under the Clinton administration. However, the bill has only Republican cosponsors: Reps. Gus Bilirakis (Fla.), William Cassidy (La.), David Joyce (Ohio), Cynthia Lummis (Colo.) Rich Nugent (Fla.) and Tom Rooney (Fla.).

I really think they thought the people would be willing to have gun control and confiscation and it has backfired on them. However, that won't deter them, they will just keep pecking away at it....

I wonder why mainstream didn't pick up on this????

the other thing the MSM forgot to report about Sandy Hook, was that there is supposedly video footage of Lanza going to the local High School and leaving, when he noticed that there were police cars present. He went for a "softer target"

But that would not have fit their agenda too well.
