$483,000 per ton??

Gee, I guess I'm getting a bargain then. I buy loose tobacco and roll my own smokes and it only figures out to be $144,000 per ton. The price nearly tripled with the new taxes that snuck through and that went into effect April 1.

Can any of you southern folks give me some lessons on growing my own tobacco??

I gave up Copenhagen 15 years ago and to this day when somebody opens a can, my mouth waters! It literally waters! Dang stuff might as well have treble hooks hidden in it! I heard on the radio today that the politicians are thinking about increasing the taxes on soda pop too! After all it's making people fat! Back to snoose....... Do any of ya remember that ol' Chris LeDoux song called "Copenhagen"?

I used to chew Redman and since i lived close to the border could get it readily and it was cheap. One machine dealer even had free samples of a different brand. I was killing time in the mall in Regina one day and saw a tobacco shop. Just out of curiosity i check on the price of chew. Beechnut/redman was $18/ pouch. Sure glad i quit.

I chewed a tobacco substitute for a while, Young's Chew from Dewey Arizona. Great stuff, made from grape leaf. Guy swore it was Redman but no nicotine. I can't find it anymore. I sure enjoyed visiting with the fellow as he was a great cowboy poet.

I sure love his music. :D
Knew a girl from Idaho that chewed and she loved the song Copenhagen Angle.
I quit over 14 years ago.

Have you gotten any lately? That new national tax is crazy high and it covers virtually everything tobacco related.

That's kind of a personal question!

If it has tripled, it is still less than half the cost of Canadian Redman. An American pouch of chew is 2.5 times the weight of ours. Our price is $18 to $20, the more I think about this the more I think about quitting again. I chewed Copenhagen for 21 years, quit cold turkey for 3, got a toothache and by the time it was fixed I was onto Redman. Can't handle Cope anymore the smell makes me sick to my stomach.

I thought about the question after I typed it, but figured I'd let it go anyway!

So how much is a pack of Camels or Marlboros in Canada?

Don't think its a crazy thought. More and more taxes keep coming and it's the "non essential" things that are first because they're a fairly easy-sell.

I had to make a phone call to find this out. We don't have either of those brands up here but a pack of 20 tailormades is $10.06. I still have the terrible memory of my parents chainsmoking with the windows rolled up and me in the middle of Dad's 66 Chevy pickup. Can't handle the smell of cigarette smoke to this day.

Sorry. Didn't mean to make you go outside and climb to pole to call the neighbor :)

Thanks for finding out though. I was just curious. Our name brand smokes are about $5.50-$6 a pack here. I'm not smart enough to quit, but I'm cheap enough to be forced into it pretty soon.

Dad told me once that he nearly quit when cigarettes got to .35 cents a pack. Emphysema got the better of him 5 years back.

Guaranteed not rip, run or snag
Makes conception a wonder and childbirth a pleasure
That's Copenhagen

I stopped my tobacco 10 years ago. Just reading about that gold top waxy paper can is making my lip want a 3 finger dip.

I wish they would up the tax on alcohol next instead of going after the gas and soda. It looks like they will go after the non diet soda (or what dose not fit there mold).
