HAY MAKER

Hard to believe, but true I guess it comes down to what each man considers cull, but I hauled 18 bred/aged cows yesterday and averaged $82 on them and $115 on some 6 weight steers .
maybe there is some truth in supply/demand ?
good luck

Short term bred cows are going 700-800 each here :? They go like hot cakes...we've been looking for some, will go to some more sales next couple weeks, but it looks like we're going to have to pay at least $100 more/head this year.

The market does strange things. Packers are now short because lots were shipping lighter cattle so they wouldn't have to feed them so long at 5.00 corn. An Ad in the paper today lists 40 black Angus bred cows for 825.00 They claim the weight is 1325 lbs average. If you figure thats 63 cents per lb. Thats 20 cents below slaughter price...........???????????

Well your calling them packers but they are really bred cows like you said. A true packer cow around here is selling around .50-.60.

I think we will continue to see a large discrepancy in prices from region to region simply because of the shipping prices. $825 seems like a cheap price for black angus bred cows if they have any life left in them, but it's hard for someone at a distance to arbitrage the price difference when shipping is approaching $3.50 per mile.

Don't know the quality, but since their black that would be a plus. :D

I don't want to start another argument about North / South relations. You guys in the US are living in Utopia though. I shipped a whole liner full of older/usable short keep cows last Dec, take-home pay..... are you ready...... $ 223.42. There was a dispersal of 450 cows not far from here last week, this ranch's calves have weighed 600 lbs + for years, they topped at $ 940.00 and went downhill from there. Due on Mar 15. Life is good, enjoy.
