I guess sometimes a bad day roping isn't better than a good day at work!
Had these emailed to me today and thought I'd share. I won't post 'em all you get the idea

that same thing happened to a friend at a college rodeo in Iowa. all he ended up with is some bumps and bruises...but if i remember right the flag man came up on his horse to help, but that horse started bucking, and knocked the flagman into a deep sleep. everyone was fine the next day. scary, could have been worse......

That was my first thought too when I got these in an email....Don't they all carry knives??? In my email, it said that these were taken at the Deadwood rodeo...but who knows...

that jogged my memory again....that wreck in Iowa, one of the other judges came to the rescue with his knife, took a swipe at the rope, missed and damn near cut his finger off. he made a trip to the hospital as well. i think the calf roper ended up in better shape than just about everyone who tried to help

I vaguely remember hangin' off the side of a bull wondering just what ever caused me to think getting on one of these critturs was a good idea in the first place.

If ya stay sitting right over your rope and don't lean over the side you get a lot better score! :D I can't remember ever hanging off the side of a bull but i have a few pictures that prove otherwise. I hate it when ya wake up later and have missed a great story! :D I can't blame the horse for coming apart.....He's got a calf on the end of a rope and a roper under his tail!

I don't know much (if anything) about comptetive calf roping, but it appears as though there is a rope that has tangled his foot in the stirrup. What is that rope for? And how did he get his foot caught up in it? Its not the piggin' strin, that stays in his mouth for the entire ordeal.

Looks to me like he caught himself in his slack...

Ohh... see it now. I was looking at the tail of his rope in those last pictures thinking that was the end the calf was on. Someone must have had ahold of it just out of the picture to make it look like there was a calf on that end.

Yeah it looks to me like he may not have gotten his slack pitched and it seems like his jerk line is really causing problems and forcing the horse backwards.

Jersey Lilly in the last picture I think there is a knife about to cut the rope in front of the calf.

Anyway that is my take on the event. Calf roping is a fun sport but getting tangled up isn't that great.

Had that happen to me at a college rodeo in Troy, AL. Got my slack caught under my foot, wrapped up and flipped me over. I was lucky enough that my horse was calm enough where i had time to get my own nknife out and cut the rope. After i fell out the stirrup you would have sworn he was an NFR quality bronc. I just laughed at him and walked to the gate. When he was done, he came meet me.

Not many ropers can ride them past one jump lol. Mind you most get in such a storm I'd bale off too-if you use yankee britching on a harness horses can usually take something under their tail.
