What can happen if you don't put the calving chains on right. He was a hard pull, looks nasty, but I think he will be fine.

As you can see our cows are WILD!! DH was trying to catch a calf that was chewing on a bunch of twine.

The very newest baby, born this afternoon. He was already trying to bounce, even though he could hardly walk.

The one everyone is trying to catch up to. Good luck to them, I say.... Straight Hereford. A contender for next year's 4H steer??

This one is out of one of my favorite cows. Shorthorn x Angus on mama's side and Hereford on the sire.

Everything look well in hand in the cow pen. You have some growthy calves there. I too would like to know how you are doing.

Thanks for the comments on the calves. We're pretty happy with how they are looking. Now if the grass would grow everything would be great. We had about 6 tenths out of the storm and it is supposed to warm up really good now so it should grow. We are down to 16 cows to calve, and other than a bit of trouble at the start it has gone very well, no twins though.

As for me, I have 1 treatment left next week, then I don't see a Dr again til late June. I'm feeling pretty good, but tire out easily. At least I feel good enough now to mess around on the computer again

Randi, are you putting in EID's at birth and what percentage do you think you lose? Calves look great, Hereford, How the west was won.

All of the steer calves get an EID tag at birth, and then some of the heifers will get tagged at branding if they are going to the Community pasture. Out of probably 80 calves last year we had 1 lose a tag, and it caught it on a wire in the corral and tore it's ear out.
