Taken through a cracked windshield on the way in to pick up a steer.

Oldman River Gap if I'm not mistaken. Beautiful country. Not bad cutthroat fishing too. What's the story behind that old stone house by the road up? I've always wondered.

Neil, that old house was built for George Heaton in 1905 by my husband's great grandfather, who was a stone mason. According to the Pincher Creek history book Prairie Grass to Mountain Pass: "It was a two story mansion with it's bay windows, rambling veranda, double fireplaces, contained sixteen rooms in all and was equipped with an elevator, bathroom and electricity. The stone house has been a landmark since the day it was built."

Well now I know. Elevator and all, eh? Too bad its delelict. I guess the Dirty Thirties took their toll. Maycroft has to be one of the most beautiful communities in the province and you're pretty blessed to get to ranch in country like that. (BSE and the border notwithstanding.)
On the first scroll through I didn't notice the cracked windshield.
Which every good Alberta ranch truck can't be without.
