Today was a gorgeous day too, until the Forest Service decided to burn less than a mile from the house.
This is the view from my driveway.

They've got it so smokey that ya can't hardly breath. Here I am in the house, making fresh apple cakes, and banana bread, and I can't even smell em for the burnin pine smoke smell...it's invaded the house. It's a wonder my smoke detectors haven't gone nuts. LOL

The NFS can be a dangerous bunch of people.

Around here when they do what is laughingly called a " control burn"...you can count on 3 x's the number of acres they meant to burn and prob a house or 2 going up also!!!

They can be a scary bunch for sure at times!

Ours are real good about only burnin what they planned on burnin. I've never known it to get outta hand anywhere around here. Not sayin it hasn't, but since we've been here (19 years) we've not had a problem. Now......Mr Lilly's dad is a whole other story when he lights stuff to burn LOL

I'm all for controlled burns. Keeps the leaves and pinestraw burnt off the forest floor, so if there was a non planned fire it won't be as hard to get under control. Livin where we do, with the Nat'l forest as our back fence, I'm glad to see them do it. They also come in before a burn and make nice fire breaks with the dozers that later are wonderful trails thru the woods to ride horses on.

I love that tree...I've never seen that moss in person, it makes for great nature artwork...Sure glad that you have good luck with "controlled burns"...we have had a few episodes where they haven't gone well...like why they pick a windy day????don't make sense to me...

Keep up the pictures!!! I miss seeing Texas...lol
