Thanks everyone, the kind comments are appreciated.

Gcreekrch, I weigh the purebreds and the few commercial bull calves that look like bull prospects. I use to weigh every thing also for many years, not as ambitious as I use to be. :)

HD glad to here you got a shower. Hope the moisture materializes for you this weekend.

It's great to see the birds come back. I was up to NR's neck of the woods a couple of days ago and saw some barn swallows, haven't seen any here yet though, how about there, any barn swallows?

No barn swallows yet, we usually do not see them until after the May long weekend. The skeeters are horrible though already. I got bitten like crazy yesterday fencing and of course there wasn't any spray in my tool box on the quad . Sure will be glad to see alot more bug eaters back soon.

Nice pictures...thanks for sharing

I like to see people using their horses

I can't wait until my new herd trusts me like it looks your cows do.

RA, thanks.

We make a concerted effort to take the time to use our horses for work. All the other options available are tempting and it would be very easy to work less with our horses. Having been blessed over the years with some very helpful horses and dogs I have a deep appreciation for the potential value of their contribution. For me, getting willing thinking minds that understand the job at hand and have figured out how to help and that want to help makes the effort worth while.

I have a few cows who don't trust me at calving. Then I get the pickup and I snare the calf and put it in back of the truck and hope the cow doesn't insist on joining us. Only had a few come in over the years.

Fortunately the vast majority of our cows don't perceive me as a threat. I try to do my best to work and behave around my cows in a manner that makes me worthy of their trust. That being said though taking any critter for granted can be a recipe for disaster especially at calving.

Dylan I can't help but laugh. When u were weighin that calf, the horse and cow looked like they were just as interested in knowin what that calf weighted as you. Lol.

(Sorry for hijacking the thread)...

I'll try to scan one in and post. She is 20 months old now. We are expecting her little sister to be born any day now. The bags are packed and by the door.

Not bad for a 41 year old man! (guess I'm a late bloomer)

Just because there is snow on the roof doesn't mean there's no fire in the fireplace.
