Yesterday afternoon, I was putting out salt and mineral close to the highway. I saw a van pull over, and a man got out. He crossed the road, and I could tell that he was taking pictures of my cattle. Always willing to promote Sandhills beef, I drove over and stopped alongside. He said he was from Ohio, and that he was taking pictures of cattle to prove to his wife back home that there are other aspects of Nebraska besides corn fields.
We had a nice little chat about lots of things, and I took the bull by the horns and asked, "Just out of curiosity, what are your feelings about politics?" He informed me that he was a conservative. I told him that I was, also. He stated, "I figured you probably were, since you look to be a working man." We visited awhile longer about the state of affairs in our country, exchanged e-mails, and parted as new friends.
My new friend
He sent me an e-mail today, and I will share parts of it with you all now.
"was a pleasant occasion meeting you yesterday. in the sand hills of nebraska. a sweet and quiet place. and more. lovely.
"i read some of your short stories, and your dads poem. liked them.
like your writing style. ive written poetry most of my life, but not prolifically.
"had you not asked me about politics i probably would have asked you.
i guess we surely must serve liberty always,or lose her affectionate rewards.
"i still have faith that there are many people in America who cherish liberty;enough to prevail in this current attempt to break us."
cordially,
XXXXXXXXXX
Anyway, it was a pleasant experience having a visit with this gentleman. Somehow, I regained a little more faith that maybe America is waking up, and that there are still a lot of good people to be found all across the land.
