A good day for Red Angus

It was a great day at Mobridge Livestock for Lazy Ace and a bunch of our customers. Here are some prices. These are all straight Red Angus replacement heifers.

Lazy Ace had a load of 692 lbs heifers and they brought $1.27 a pound or $879/head

Here are some customers that sold here as well.

Aberle Ranch - 666 lbs - $1.16 or $773
Prairie View Ranch - 726 lbs - $1.2450 or $904
M Leibel - 710 lbs - $1.12 or $795
J Leibel - 694 lbs - $1.27 or $881

For the market I think this was great. It was a huge premium over steers, while crossbred heifers were bringing under $1 a pound.

Straight breeding works sometimes too and they don't have to be black!

Yeah it was a pretty fun day for all red angus breeders. Grandpa and Dad were very happy. Mobridge does a nice job promoting red angus.

It is backwards from what has been discussed on this forum recently. The black heifers were the out cattle and sold in the mid ninties.

Optimism is definitely contagious I spoke to the young gentlemen that bought ours and Prairie View's cattle and he said he couldn't sleep last night and probably wasn't going to be able to sleep tonight. He said he was planning on selling them as breds. I hope the cattle make him some money next year. Anyway I agree 100% about optimism in the cattle industry.

Thank you, everyone!

It was indeed a great day for Red Angus, which as breeders is far more important that our individual results. We are also blessed with great commercial breeders using Red Angus genetics in our area, along with an Auction Market owner who believes in the breed and promotes them like he believes in the breed.

Cheers---

Congratulations to Lazy Ace, TTB and BRG and your customers. Nice to see a color blind part of the country. It seems to be spreading to other parts of the country, but slowly. GL on your bull sales. Results like these should be a good sign for your sales!

The optimism is great, and it isn't just from the local area. I know 2 groups went to ND, we bought a group for a guy in IA and and a load for a guy in NE. The IA guy will sell them as bred heifers next year and the NE guy will make cows out of them. I sure hope these guys will make them work next year, but I believe we are now in a time where the good cattle get a premium, whether we are selling feeder cattle, replacements or bulls. You can get average cattle everywhere. So I think they will all come out fine because these were definetely good cattle.

Nothing makes me happier in this business that when a customer can get excited about his selling price, and it seems that they all were yesterday. Congrats to all of them!
