A Great(?) Society

Texan

Well-known member
The liberal Democrats in this country have cultivated an entire class of people that are completely worthless. A class of people that won't do a damn thing to help themselves. They think everything is owed to them and natural disasters like these hurricanes just bring them out from under their rocks.

This is Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society"? An Obama presidency will only make it exponentially worse. But some of you people will still support him anyway? :???:

People are getting tired of giving - not only their money, but also their time. I saw this nurse being interviewed on one of the local Shreveport newscasts last night. She posted this on a news message board this morning:

Before everyone thinks I am a terrible, prejudiced, horrible person, just wanted to send a copy of the letter I sent to the Times editors and Bill O'Reilly. Please pray that Hurricane Ike will NOT come to Louisiana - I don't think I have the attitude of Christ yet!
Sherri

Dear Editor,
I am a nurse who has just completed volunteer working approximately 120 hours as the clinic director in a Hurricane Gustav evacuation shelter in Shreveport, Louisiana over the last 7 days. I would love to see someone look at the evacuee situation from a new perspective. Local and national news channels have covered the evacuation and "horrible" conditions the evacuees had to endure during Hurricane Gustav.
True - some things were not optimal for the evacuation and the shelters need some modification.
At any point, does anyone address the responsibility (or irresponsibility) of the evacuees?
Does it seem wrong that one would remember their cell phone, charger, cigarettes and lighter but forget their child's insulin?
Is something amiss when an evacuee gets off the bus, walks immediately to the medical area, and requests immediate free refills on all medicines for which they cannot provide a prescription or current bottle (most of which are narcotics)?
Isn't the system flawed when an evacuee says they cannot afford a $3 copay for a refill that will be delivered to them in the shelter yet they can take a city-provided bus to Wal-mart, or package store to buy 5 bottles of Vodka, and return to consume them secretly in the shelter?
Is it fair to stop performing luggage checks on incoming evacuees so as not to delay the registration process but endanger the volunteer staff and other persons with the very realistic truth of drugs, alcohol and weapons being brought into the shelter?
Am I less than compassionate when it frustrates me to scrub emesis from the floor near a nauseated child while his mother lies nearby, watching me work 26 hours straight, not even raising her head from the pillow to comfort her own son?
Why does it insense me to hear a man say "I ain't goin' home 'til I get my FEMA check" when I would love to just go home and see my daughters who I have only seen 3 times this week?
Is the system flawed when the privately insured patient must find a way to get to the pharmacy, fill his prescription and pay his copay while the FEMA declaration allows the uninsured person to acquire free medications under the disaster rules?
Does it seem odd that the nurse volunteering at the shelter is paying for childcare while the evacuee sits on a cot during the day as the shelter provides a "daycare"?
Have government entitlements created this mentality and am I facilitating it with my work?
Will I be a bad person, merciless nurse or poor Christian if I hesitate to work at the next shelter because I have worked for 7 days being called every curse word imaginable, feeling threatened and fearing for my personal safety in the shelter?
Exhausted and battered,
Sherri Hagerhjelm, RN

Sort of the same thing that the libs have successfully strived to accomplish on the Reservations. A reliable voting block, that as a population, in general have lost the ability to succeed in life and just wait around for that next subsistence handout.

Interesting article Texan. Back to the top.

I do not understand how you blame the libs for this...Since 1969 which was was almost 40 years ago the libs where only in power for 12 of those years,..that means the conservatives have been in power 28 of those years. That is over twice as long.yet you blame the libs for things like this...Your majority goverment has been the conservatives for the past 40 years by more the double.yet you still blame the libs for everything....When wiil you conservatives every finially stand up and see how your republican goverment has put you in this place, not the dems....If you stop and think about it,they have even brain wash you to see the poor as the bad and the wealthy as those to look up too...In God's eye people are people .money is not what makes them better or worse..

It is sad to see such a big western country like america wth people so poor that thier homes are on the street, put there by drugs and booze or mental illness. All problems conservatives seem to care less about.Well thats not true, they do want concealed hand guns to kill crackheads that may attack them.....Rather then fix the problem, all you conservative do is bitch about the liberals who try to fix the problems..my money, my money,my money, thats all conservatives care about,.....yet what would jesus do if he ran your country?...You conservatives should be imbarassed by what your repub goverment has turned your country into over the last 40 years..... Or you can just blame the liberals, thats right you already do that....You are a well trained bunch,i will give you that.

I will not attack you on the context of what you said, just that you need to quit ending or starting your comments with a sign of weakness and complaining! Stand strong for what you believe and do not be the victim even before you become one!

The Great Society. How wonderful. All brought about by LBJ and his cohorts, past and present. That nurse should have told those jibbering tards what was what, but, oh, my....that wouldn't be politically correct, in fact, it would be...Ahhhhhh...RACIST! My aching a$$.

This is what happens when the only experience the best and brightest the libs have to offer spent his time helping Shaniqua get her government cheese and her welfare check sent to the right crack house. Yet, the libs have the cajones to attack voraciously the candidate for the secondary spot, one who has not only run a city, but a state and her state's militia/warriors, as having "no experience".

The population who will vote for Bama Lama Ding Dong SHOULD be prime candidates for brain transplants, IF they had a brain to begin with.

And, yes, you may consider this racist. I am violently racist when it comes to utter stupidity and incompetence, no matter race, gender, or religious affiliation.

Like you say, nonothing - you don't understand. This Great Society legislation had it's roots in the mid-sixties when Lyndon Johnson (D) had a veto-proof majority of Dems in Congress - they controlled 2/3 of both houses.

But like you said - you don't understand. And I really don't have the time to try to change that for you.

Oh I have been the victim of many tirades in here...You always talk like being the victim is a week thing.....In here Somtimes the victim stands alone and takes many personal attacks thier way .....It does not have to be a bad thing to be the victim in here......It at times takes sac to stand up against the pack....I would rather be a victim then a yes man follower...So if you consider me weak,I really could care less....I consider myself to hold true to my believes, admit then apologize and learn when I am wrong, and respect those that show me the same....So a victim I shall be.....

Out of those 28 years how many years did the conservatives also control congress?? There is where the problem is. LIBERAL CONGRESS !!!!

The Republicans regained control of the House and Senate when the new members were sworn in in Jan. 1995--they've had a majority ever since- including 6 years with a Republican (GW) President (one of the reasons I voted for Bush-giving the Congress and the WH to the Repubs, maybe they would do something)- and they did NOTHING- except go on a drunken spending spree- run up a record national debt- build federal bureaucracy bigger than its ever been- throw away Trillions of US taxpayers dollars overseas- and indebt all of us for our lifetimes- and possibly our kids and grandkids...
And now they want us to reward them with our vote :???:
The did nothing to close the gap between the haves and the have nots- instead creating a larger poverty and lower middle class- a smaller middle class and a much wealthier top 2%-- while the disparity between working class and executive salaries boomed to a record 400% ( worldwide ranges in the 8-20% difference)..
Instead of closing the disparity- they added to it by lowering the taxes for the most wealthy- and by refusing/avoiding enforcing immigration laws and border security added up to 20 million new class "semi-slave" laborers to the country- that don't even have to be paid minimum wage or workmens comp to...If they complain or get hurt- kick them out- they can't turn you in without being deported..

Nope the 12 year rule of the Repub Congress did nothing to stem the problems- only aggravated them worse........

You're lying again. Just on the Senate side alone..........how was it that Tom Daschal was the Senate majority leader just a few years back?

And I haven't even taken the time to look at the House numbers.

Most of the poor on the street are there because of the sum total of the decisions that they made. Some knew better when they were making those decisions, some didn't. You know what you're taught, and the "Great Society" of the libs. teaches that the government will take care of you. Look at New Orleans and then try to tell me that I'm wrong.

What would Jesus do? I think he would tell us to take care of those who can't take care of themselves and those that are able to take care of themselves need to get off their lazy butts and pitch in.

With respect to Daschle, at the time he was a majority leader the Senate was 50/50.

Yea Reagan had to clean up the messes of the Carter years and Bush had to clean up the messes of the Clinton years. Funny how they both involved Muslim extremist.

But thankfully due to so many Republican Presidents America stayed such a strong and fruitful Country that we have to discuss building a fence just to keep illegal people from trying to get a piece of the American Pie!

Even you are mesmerized by our Country and Politics, which is shown by the numerous hours you spend discussing it on here........To quote a Branson MO Talent "What a Country"!!!!!!!

Just imagine how terrible it may have been if those Republicans had not been President all them years, you may have had no place to send people for a MRI or Deliver them Multiple births!

Wrong. If that were true then Nancy Pelosi wouldn't be Speaker of the House, would she?

The current House has 233 Democrats and 202 Republicans. The Senate is a 49/49 split with 2 Independents that caucus with the Democrats. Of course one of those Independents is Joe Lieberman who will no longer be allowed to caucus with the Democrats because of his speech at the Republican convention. Those mean, old pouty Democrats are going to punish him for daring to have a mind of his own.
