?? THE YEAR 1906??

This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine!
The year is 1906.
One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1906 :

************************************

The average life expectancy was 47 years.

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles

of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!

The average wage in the USA was 22 cents per hour.

The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year .

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,
a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME .

Ninety percent of all doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION!

Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which

were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."

Sugar cost four cents a pound.

Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.

Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used

borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from

entering into their country for any reason.

Five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.

The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!!!

Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea

hadn't been invented yet.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write.

Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." ( Shocking? DUH! )

Eighteen percent of households had at least

one full-time servant or domestic help.

There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE ! U.S.A. !

Now I forwarded this from someone else without typing

it myself, and sent it to you and others all over the United States ,& Canada

possibly the world, in a matter of seconds!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

IT STAGGERS THE MIND, EH .?

as I began reading I felt a certain sense that maybe I was born 100 years too late..............................................................................................

til I read about only washing my hair once a month..  ..
NO ICED TEA.....
and the availability of heroin OVER THE COUNTER!!!

However, the population of Las Vegas was CONTROLLABLE!!
I could ALWAYS use some domestic help.....NO, DEMODRIVER, YOU DO NOT QUALIFY AS DOMESTIC HELP!!
Things were, indeed, so much easier!!! :D :D :D

Our laundry alone would keep me busy from daylight till dark 24/7 if I had to haul it all down to the creek and beat it on a rock to get it clean.

Not to mention cookin. On a wood stove, havin to go gather all the fire wood for that would be ten times more than what it takes to heat the home with the fireplace or heater for the winter.

Haulin water to the house, no inside toilet, and possibly no outside one......just a bush. don't mind that ever now n then, but all the time would get old......specially in the winter time LOL

Ewwww I can't imagine usin an egg yolk to wash yer hair with. I know it's sposta make it shiney, but if it's gone a month without washin.....I don't much thank an egg yolk is gonna git it clean. Borax on the other hand, would prolly clean it.....or be so strengent it would fall out. haha
You read about men smellin like, horses, leather, and whatever else might be added in that month....they made it sound romantic .....I don't mind the smell of horses or leather....it's the other that would bother me terribly.....

Or how bout goin to the barber to have a tooth pulled???

Or hairy legs and underarms cuz women didnt shave? and you all wonder why they wore long dresses all the time??? THATS WHY!!!!!

That gets you to thinking.
Eastys parents will celebrate thier 50th wedding anniversery in Oct.
I "stole" 2 of thier wedding pictures and her mom was telling me about one of the grandkids asking for the color pictures.

EEEKKKKKK who else can remember Black & White pictures ONLY?
Black & White TV ? only 2 stations to watch?
Milk being delivered in a metal box in glass bottles?
Either News reels or cartoons before the movie?
OMAGWD I am stopping there I am feeling OLD  :? LOL

On the "stole" part I am going to have the pictures cleaned up and blown up to 8 x 10. Thought It would be cool to have "then and 50 years later side by side. Now to get thier picture without them knowing LOL yeah sure going to fool that man....NOT going to happen, but he will do anything his beautiful wife asks ......soooooo sweet to see how much they love each other after all these years.

The American flag had 45 stars.

Yep, we didn't get to be a state until 1912.......Arizona was right behind us........

My great aunt was 1 year old (yep, she'll be 101 this November). And those were pretty darn good wages at 22 cents per hour. Auntie told us that both she and Uncle Joe (her late husband) worked for a neighboring rancher for a dollar a day (for both of them! )

Of course, NM has always been about yea-far behind the times......

Interesting data, though.
