A little moment that made my day

We had to run to town today for the various normal reasons. Grain, groceries, get a tire fixed, put a check in the bank and even stopped at a little Chinese place for lunch. We were seated in a booth across from 2 strapping young fella's both of whom were wearing Army uniforms. We placed our order and visited as a family while we had lunch. My daughter asked me about soldiers and was curious about where these guys lived and where they were from. It was a great opportunity to explain how awesome soldiers are and the sacrifices they make, to my kids. One is 7 and the other 3 and they asked us lots of good questions. Well, I slipped into the restroom to wash up and when I got back my wife told me she had gotten the waitress to let us pay for the two guys' lunch unbeknowest to them. We quietly told our kids what Mom had done and they both though it was kinda neat. When the two youngmen got ready to go they went to the counter to settle up and the gal told them it was taken care of. We were watching this kinda incognito and they wanted to know who had done it. The waitress hemmed and hawwed and finally spilled the story. They both then came to our table and with huge grins and handshakes told us thanks and how much they appreciated the deed. Now for the cool part of the story; After they left we sat as a family visiting about how awesome soldiers are. My little girl said that she felt so proud of all soldiers she just wanted to put her hand over her heart! And then in the same breath asked if she could pray tonight at family prayer as she couldn't wait to thank her Heavenly Father for soldiers and their families! Ya'll need to know I am one proud Papa! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D And ya'll need to GO OUT OF YOUR WAY to shake hands and thank all veterans!

That was a very nice thing to do 'H. I love the questions and comments that kids come up concerning soldiers. Our 6 yr old met a soldier this yr at ski lessons who had been wounded and lost an eye, she was fascinated with his eye patch, and asked a million questions as to the why, when and how it had happened, she still talks about him and how cool and brave he was.

Some good raised kids ya got there!!
They'll remember that day and those soldiers for forever;

That is a great story, leanin' H. You and your wife and kids are a neat family, and the experience will be one that you all will long remember. I am sure that your generosity was greatly appreciated by the soldiers, and made them feel the respect that they so richly deserve.

Thank you. :)

that is a great story. as i travel, if I run across a soldier in a convienence store or restaurant, I try to buy the meal, or get thier snacks at the convienence store.... this posed a problem for me in Junction City, Kansas one afternoon.... the place was 3 blocks away from the gates to the Military Post.....the damned string of soldiers NEVER STOPPED !!!.... I had to just pass on it that day. I did not have enough cash to go around!
