A lot worse than Iraq

is the continuing loss of our young people to automobile accidents.

The US is losing 6,000 teenagers every year to accidents with lots of them just after getting their initial drivers license.

They ignore the law about having others in their car, they use alcohol and drugs. They think they know everything and are indestructible.

It seems this ought to be controlable. What a tragic loss. Almost everyone knows of a youngster who lost his life too early.

At least, the soldiers and marines in Iraq are serving their country.

I have noticed something and maybe it is just because I have gotten older or maybe there is something else to it.. But growing up around Chicago a lot of kids didn't seem to get into these accidents. Wether it was pre cell phone days (It was), more cops, shorter, better lit areas or me just not paying attention to how many kids died I don't know... Now, I did know of a lot of kids who had parents die in auto accidents...

But out here in the country it seems like every year there are one or two or four terrible accidents in which 2-3 kids die. Is it that the kids had to drive longer distances to do things? Is it the news area covers a much larger area and covers things like this more in depth because, well, they have a smaller town attitude (I think this is a great deal to do with it. In Chicago area they had murders or gang violence and other things to cover, we don't have as many of those out here) is it the kids go bombing down the roads at 80 mph because there are no officers to pull you over out here.. I don't know but it is sad that we loose so many young kids a year...

A local student had a bad accident and one of the kids died. You are right, IL rancher, it is really sad. I think they were both "troubled" kids.

Cowpuncher, I don't think the two relate. I don't like to see any excuses that makes us feel better about losing troops---or teenagers.

We are fighting an unpopular war in Iraq because we messed up so much in the beginning. We snubbed the largest and most trained potential partners and turned them into enemies of the state. The aftermath of the war wasn't well thought out and we stepped into it the wrong way against the advice of some of the highest ranking generals.

I was for the war and under competent leadership, I think we could have made a difference in the Middle East. As it is, we have just made a mess.

Every soldier's life should be counted over there and so should the cost, as it should be with teenagers.

I think we all are sadden by the loss of life. That is because we value life so highly. Yet, statistically, a certain pertage of people lose their life to war, cancer & other illness, car accidents, suicide, drive-by shootings, gang-related activity, and so many other tragedies. ALL are considered loss. Not one more tragic than another. No one deserves what they get.

Yet, there is hope in an after life. Through Jesus we can have eternal life. We can't determine that for other people, only for ourselves. It is an individual choice and a significant choice. For any day, any one of us could lose our life. It would be a great comfort to those around us if they could feel confident that we are going to be a better place.

This is just a pure crap statement that is trying to focus away from the mess Iraq has become. Yes, a lot of kids die each and every year from auto accidents...but compare that to Iraq is CRAP!!!!!!!!

This war should be controlable also and all 3K+ have died too early!

does anybody tell those 6,000 teenagers that by getting themselves killed in a car accident they'll be serving their country and making the ultimate sacrifice? what a load of crap that comparison is. if you think there is glory in the death of a young american in iraq you're using the same logic as the islamic fundamentalists advising young people to be suicide bombers.

The main difference is that parents and others can, or ought, to be able to do something about kids dying in car accidents. The war can be blamed on Bush or someone else but we have to take responsibility for our kids.

I ratted out our neighbor girl who was taking the family car out without her mother's permission. She was only 13 and was driving on California highways. Just couldn't stand to see what was going to happen.

That young lady stayed mad for about 10 years, but I think she is glad I called her Mom.

How many of us have watched kids drive carelessly, or after they had been drinking and never did a thing about igt?

Case in point: Last week a group of kids were going to do some Bible study @ the local old folks home. They were driving , minding their own business when out of the blue comes a drunk idiot , about 67 yrs old , slams into them, kills 2 and then spins his car and takes out 8o' feet of board fence, 2 power poles @ our office and HE WALKS AWAY from it!!!!

Not the kids fault!!

Koo Koo.....what about the 3,000 plus folks who did nothing more than go to work at the WTC buildings on September 11, 2001?

Are you also saying that 67 year olds and up should not have driver's licenses? My mother is almost 87, and if you tried to keep her from driving she'd bounce your buttocks down the pavement so fast sparks would fly! Especially if you got in front of her S-10!

BTW, Koo Koo...Wisconsin was GREAT! I went to see a pal of mine, 50 years old, who is getting DEPLOYED in July! He is Navy Reserve, attached to a SEAL team. He has no problem with it. The Service is, after all, VOLUNTARY.

What does the WTC have to do with Iraq? Since you spend so much time bouncing back and forth between personalities let me inform you.

WTC was attacked by SAUDI hijackers under the direction of a SAUDI who was based in Afghanistan.

Other than GW's ' wild hair'....Iraq has/had nothing to do with that!!!!

I won't comment on your mother...I'm sure she has enough to worry with dealing with you.

I hope your one friend survives Iraq, cause if heaven forbid something happens t him...you gonna be up shite creek with no friends!

The WTC has more to do with it than some kids who got killed going to the old folk's home to study the Word.

Thw WTC was attacked by MUSLIM fanatics under the direction of a MUSLIM fanatic, Einstein! Country of birth has little meaning when jihad is being conducted, Iraq included.

I have a pal in Gray, Georgia. Maybe we should go see him next. He's a whining, crying, Bush bashing lib just like you. There must be tie-ups in the water down there that is causing widespread mental deficiencies.

The hijackers might have been from Saudi but I bet Saddam would have welcomed them a lot more than the Saudi government would have. Don't forget Terrorist such as the 911 hijackers are not only Ameica's enemies but also Saudi's enemies. Bin Laden is no more welcome there than he is in the U.S. he is a devoted enemy of both.

As for Iraq having anything to do with 911. Do you change the oil in your car after the motor blows or do you do it as preventive maintenance as needed? Well Iraq was not done because of 911 it was done as preventive maintenance, it was time for an oil change by Saddam. The low oil light was flashing and the motor was starting to knock So Bush changed the oil!

So you simplify the deaths of over 3K by comparing it to an oil change for $15.99 that you can get in any QuickLube!!

Way to go Aminus....I'm sure those mommas and daddy's would agree 100% with you!

No! I simplified it so simple minds could understand. Sometimes with weaker minds it is easier to understand stuff if you draw them a picture. I drew you a mental picture.

Come to think of it, maybe we need a Sesame Street type of show for you libs. It might not be your fault you think the way you do, maybe we have forsaken you by not offering the proper education.

Maybe a game like "Which of these things do not belong" would help.

So now you're saying that people who read this forum are unable to understand and are weak minded???

Quit 'drawing' then....you suck at it!!

Wait a minute....you're right...I can think of one/two...one in the same person who is kinda feeble minded!!!
