You got that right!! Even if you just start by writing them down in rough form and develop them later. I'll bet you'd be surprised how quickly it would come together.

We lost an old timer here a few years back and he could keep me spellbound for hours as he sat and quietly recounted stories about the settlement of this part of the country. Sure wish I'da written them down while I still remembered them. Once it's gone, it's gone.

I bought my folks journals so when they think about a story, they can write em down.... Dad has some great stories when he worked for the Eldred ranch north of Lewellen...

My FIL worked for Mr. Eldred for a summer when he was a young teenager.

I wish I had done that for my dad, Katrina. That would have been an excellent idea as he went to Alaska for years and helped build the pioneer roads...the roads they took the heavy equipment in on. He was one of
the first to 'punch a hole' in some of those rocks up there. He dearly loved it. Sad to say, Mr. FH listened better to his stories than I did.
I regret that now. His stories are gone...

Dad was born in 25, and this was before he was married at the age of 27.

I don't think so. FIL was a footloose kid that Mr. Eldred picked up on the road and hired because he was a stranger. Eldred was a little senile by this time and FIL was hired to tell him if the brands were put on his calves properly as his eyesight was failing. Mr. Eldred was convinced that his crew was stealing from him and kept FIL away from the rest of them as he didn't want FIL "corrupted" (not making any insinuations :D )
FIL later worked for Eldred Jr. and said he was the cheapest SOB he ever worked for.
FIL was born in '31.

Soapweed's family knew some of FIL's family when they lived at Merrimon.
