A plan to survive the Obama years

Z. Dwight Billingsly BY Z. DWIGHT BILLINGSLY

11/27/2008

As Jack Buck once said, "I don't believe what I just saw!" Americans on Nov. 4 turned over control of the United States of America to a management team possessing no executive experience, having never run, as I liked to put it, nothing.

Well, Americans usually get the government they deserve, and I urge you all to get ready for this 21st century version of amateur hour. It's going to be an embarrassing and dangerous time for America and American ideals. There won't be much, I'm afraid, to be thankful for.

Bill Kristol, writing in The Weekly Standard, reminded me that every 16 years we get a Democrat president with no experience in national security or international affairs who's elected after Republican presidents have made and kept America safe: After Eisenhower, we got Kennedy; after Nixon/Ford, we got Carter; after Reagan/Bush, we got Clinton. And after Bush II, we get Barack Obama.

Every strong Republican president who succeeded in protecting America has allowed Americans to become complacent about national security, thereby opening the door for weak Democrats who allowed enemies to threaten and attack America without penalty. Obama will be no different, and Americans will have to learn again that there can be no economic security without national security.

That's not to say that Obama's election doesn't come with a couple of interesting side effects. For example, henceforth no black man in America may be called unqualified for any job that he might seek, no matter his prior education or experience level. Want to be a nuclear scientist but lack a Ph.D. in physics? If the applicant is a black man, it's no problem. Just offer hope to the profession and promise change from all those stuffy theorems that have given the discipline its structure over the years, and you're in.

That's on a par with throwing out the fact that tax cuts lead to more investment, job creation and increasing government revenues, just because the black man, that transcendent agent of change, says it's OK.

Another side effect has been white people contacting me to say that I should be proud to see a black man become president. Could there be a comment that is more condescending, more insulting, than that? If I believed that in America a black man could not be president, then I would be proud to see any black man elected president. But because I always have believed that nothing in America prevents a black man from becoming president or anything else he wants to be, I can be embarrassed, not proud, to see someone as unqualified and inexperienced as Obama become president.

Jackie Robinson, the first black man in modern-day major league baseball, illustrates my point. He was the right man with the right combination of talent, temperament and character at the right time to be successful for that important "first." Obama? An empty suit who will fail.

I'm going to approach the Obama years the same way liberals handled the Iraq war. Just as they claimed to support our troops while opposing the war, I'm going to support my country while opposing Obama and what he stands for in every way that I can. It's only four years and with the astute Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky as Senate minority leader, Republicans can stop the Obama extremists for two years until mid-term elections in 2010 give Republicans the boost in Congress that inevitably will come.

And in 2012, we'll have Sarah Palin to clean up Obama's mess and remind us again of America's exceptionalism.

A lie. Bush cut taxes. Where are the jobs? We have the largest Federal Budget Deficit in history. Where are the tax revenues to pay off that deficit? Do you think if you repeat this often enough, someone will believe it?

Please, God, let the Republicans run Sarah Palin as their candidate in 2012. All those embarrasing TV interviews are on the shelf, just waiting for the opportunity to be aired again. :D

ffff, before you make a fool of yourself calling proven economic policies lies, THINK for a minute and consider that there are two inputs that determine a balance; money coming in and money going out. Because we have a large deficit, you jumped to the conclusion that it was because of the former and not the latter - but then you Liberals aren't exactly known for the ability to look at the whole picture, assimilate facts and reach an educated conclusion.

Don't forget, fff that Bush has had to fight with a democrat controlled Congress last 2 years, and in many cases given in to them        Everything was fine until the Dems took over...tell me when the gas prices became outrageous and stayed there for over a year????? Oh, it was GW's fault. So who is to take credit for the fall in gas prices? I suppose you dems will take that credit. Things have tailspinned last 2 years and it isn't totally GW's fault.

What qualifications does Obama have that she doesn't?

Few things would please me more than the Republican Party nominating Sarah Palin as their presidential candidate in 2012. If she has a birth certificate, she's qualified to be their nominee. :D

Show me where it's "proven" economic policy from a non-conservative source. Show me where in the last 20 years, a tax cut for the rich lead to more income for the middle/low income workers. Reagan touted it and left us with a record budget deficit (at the time). Bush cut taxes, assuring us that it would create jobs and his deficit outstrips Reagans. It's a lie. The Bush Administration has one of the worst records of any administration for job creation. Middle and low income families have seen their income stagnant/lose value during Bush's term, while we've created a record number of millionaires. George HW Bush called it "voodo economics". He was right.

Pretend that you're running a business, fff. Let's say you're making bobblehead Obamas, since that's about all he is, anyhow. Chairman Maobama actually follows through with one of his campaign promises and raises your taxes. What does that do to your net profit? How does that change in your net profit in turn affect your benefit packages, expansion, job creation, etc..... Now what would the effect be if your taxes were cut?

Another example; This summer, in order to stimulate the economy, the government gave out checks. Basically they gave back tax money in a half-assed tax cut. Now, if reducing taxes wasn't an economic stimulator, why did they do this?

Figure it out.

I've been to Obama's home district, and Obama's trickle up poverty is complete there. Now if Obama could find a way to tax illegal drugs and prostitution they could finance the gang training. South Chicago makes Juarez Mexico look like an enterprise zone, a very safe enterprise zone.

With great reluctance I am now forced to consider a real dissolution of the fragments known as America. If one has the choice to enter the social contract, then why not exit the social contract also? I want nothing to do with South Chicago or the imprisonment planned for me by the left.

Cutting taxes creates jobs and raises everyone's standard of living. Raising them does just the opposite. It's been proven time and again. Even Obama now acknowledges it, although I suspect he knew it all along. He used the old "tax the evil rich" routine to drum up class warfare and pander to lower and middle class voters. It wasn't about doing something constructive as much as punishing someone. When people are suffering, they look to blame someone, in this case the evil rich.

Now that Obama has been elected, guess what? He suddenly has an epiphany that raising taxes would be bad for the economy. Well, gee, if it's so harmful when the economy is bad, why isn't it harmful when the economy is good? Answer: it is, we just don't notice it as much. You can bet that every time taxes are raised on the rich, or successful businesses are saddled with a windfall profits tax, jobs are lost. But if the unemployment rate stays relatively low because of a strong economy, no one really gives a crap.

This stuff is so easy to understand it says a lot for someones thinking process when they can not understand it!

You take money away from people that hire people and they will fire or lay off people to compensate for the lost profits! Anyone that has worked a budget and especially a payroll understands how this works.

Any loss of profits and you starting looking for ways to cut back, and payroll is many times the first place we look at! Next thing you know, middle class gets broker due to job losses!
