A poem about our Stockshow

My daughter recently wrapped up her 2nd year showing in 4H with a blue ribbon steer and a red ribbon lamb. :D It got me to thinking about her first lamb at the county fair last year. This is what i whipped up......

Showin' Sheep

Just a girl and her lamb in a stockshow ring,
I lean on the fence and my heart kinda sings.

She's worked and she's worked, almost each summer day,
getting one little sheep, bout' perfect i'd say.

The ol' judge walks around and studies each one,
while the kids set em' up and then smile til' he's done.

"This one goes here, and that one move down".
The kids keep on smiling, while us grownups all frown.

Just a girl and her lamb, the first one she's shown.
I couldnt be prouder, if she was queen on a throne.

This Montana judge is takin' his sweet time.
He's makin' up his mind, while i'm losing mine.

He circles once more and then nods his head,
and picks up the microphone, but i never heard what he said,

cause a girl and her lamb were awarded first place,
blue ribbon in hand, shocked smile on her face!

I blink away tears and chew on my tongue,
bout' bursting with pride, at what the lil' gal has done.

We helped just a little, she did all the rest.
A great, young stockwoman, her dad, he's impressed.

Stockshows were made, to raise kids, not sheep.
But that one little lamb is a memory i'll keep.

Just a girl and her lamb, now embraced in a hug.
Wool's worth a lot more than a Pendleton rug.

Your poem was great--gave me the goose bumps and a tear or two!!
And your daughter is great too. Super that she loves animals...and gets to work with them.

Both of you keep up the good work!!!

Oh, please tell her we said "congratulations!"

Thanks for sharing H, you have 2 youngsters to be proud of.

Hope you're keeping all these poems so I can buy a book someday. :D
