since i can remember_a farmer is the dream i always to be
i got my first tractor_when i was just three
my grandfather farmed_with a horse and a plow
he got his milk_from his prize jersy cow
my dad farmed_with a little john deere
when i rode with him_he would let me steer
i remember when i rented_my first acre
i was really proud_and knew i could maker
then came the 1970s_and eighties
when some farmers and bankers_became some crazies
with their 4-wheel drive tractors_and big cultivators
they tried to keep up with the jones_and fought with their neighbors
with the ASCS,SCS_and the FMHA
with the SET-ASIDE,and the CRP__it was goverments way
with chemicals and fertilizer_at three hundred dollars a ton
the life of farming_was no longer fun
with hogs to feed_and cattle to hay
with a tractor broke down_and a banker to pay
my landlord died_and i was deep in debt
i was forced into bankruptcy_the date had been set
when my farm sale was over_i wish i had died
my dream of a farmer had ended_i sat down and i CRIED.

I watched my grand dad go through a bankruptcy, they took everything he put together. that was in the early 80's he died 3 years ago, but I think he truly died in the 80's.....

Yep, that's the way it was. We could write a sequel to that today, and probably after that; another. There is always change, harder for some then others. When this happens we ask the government to step in, all they do is provide more hurtles to get over. In spite of all this, things go on.
