as all the chatter talk of the media focuses on a few pols saying republicans are damaged and the tea party is in the tank.. one wonders what a real poll would look like.. and what the results would be..
On the day the deal was struck we had a poll here in liberal New Jersey.. with results that tarnish the medias version..
with the closure of the recent race for a senate seat.. we had the ideal match-up..
one one side,.. super rock-star Cory Booker.. a politician made and supported by Hollywood.. who just happens to live in NYC.. with an image only equaled to Barack himself.. and a self proclaimed moderate and tough on crime to boot.. (already considered a presidential hopeful)..
on the other side, a scrappy Tea party extremist.. a man who when he stood with Sarah Palin stood to her right.. in fact in the line up he is the extremists extremist.. that's right.. on the far right fringe. a real rightwingnut..
so in liberal New Jersey you would expect the results to be much worse then the polling nationwide.. but They Weren't.. in fact the race left Booker bruised and as some say,.. damaged..
the final isn't out yet..
but the results should convince the conservatives that we just won a battle... even as the republicans surrendered..
Booker won,.. heck that was expected,.. but what wasn't is how close the race really was considering the national backdrop..
Booker.. 54.6%
Lonegan 44.3%
How could a far right tea party extremist take even 44.3% in far left North east Liberal New Jersey if the Tea Party was the evil incarnate of the right?
a closer look at the results show Booker took the cities and counties with minority populations by further margins.. Essex 78%,.. Camden 65%
Hudson 78% Mercer 66% counties with large black populations went largely for liberal Booker as expected.. heck, Booker could have been caught sexting with a stripper, outed as gay and caught living in another state and he would have still won those counties..
while Lonegan pretty much cleaned up in all the downstate and rural counties.. Cape May 59% Hunterdown 61%, Monmouth 54%, Morris 56%, Ocean 65%,.. Salem 59%, Summerset 51%, Sussex 66%,. Warren 65%
so why did so many informed voters ignore the polls?
Why on earth would it be so close.. after all Booker is a democrat superstar,.. and Lonegan a far-right-wing-nut Tea party extremist..
My guess,.. the other polls are wrong.. and the actual voters spoke yesterday..

Both in the 2008 and the 2012 presidential election, Democrat Barack Obama carried the state by more than 15 percentage points.
Only Hawaii have had longer periods of exclusive Democratic victories in U.S. Senate races.
