Ranchers.net
it was in the spring---of nineteen fifty-five
a US Navy Veteran---try'n to survive
got a VA loan---and started a small farm
an eager young man---now out of harm
tho wounded in service---with shrapnal in his leg
he was honored a Purple Heart---and chose not to beg
he fought for his country---and his land he did love
he believed in the Lord---and God's heaven above
was in the fall---of ninteen fifty-nine
he was now a husband---and life seemed fine
with one little son---and one on the way
was out do'n chores---it was another day
out pick'n corn---to feed his old sows
the green stalks left over---would pre-winter his cows
sit'n on a prize Farmal---with a mounted picker
reached back with his arm---to see if he could un-sticker
the machine took his arm---on that fateful day
but he believed in the Lord---and began to pray
with the help of his family---he continued to farm
to teach his three boys---to stay out of harm
a wife and three sons---with grandkids to start
he soon died of cancer---and a failing heart
a US Navy Veteran---with only one arm
was my proud father---who taught me to farm!!
