Actually Roper,I couldn't tell you any numbers but I do know for a fact a number of Albertans are going to B.C to work. My sis and her husband are in Ft.St John, just transferred there a year ago,and our best friend works out of Ft.St. John also. I understand Tumbler Ridge is taking a turn for the better. Our best friend works for Oil company, lots of oil activity around Dawson Creek and Ft.S.John.

I dont believe you.

I care not if you believe me. I'm telling you how it is here. I don't believe 'flocking' was a word I used.
As far as how you feel about all the development, I feel the same way. People are moving in so fast it makes me sick, farm / ranch land is being bought up by hunters. The commuting distance land is being chopped up and turned into hobby farms and acreages. It's disgusting. Land is being taken out of the ALR at an alarming rate. A sign of 'progress' I guess, the price we pay for our thriving economies.
Say, is there anyone left in Nfld???

Im guessing just the really old are left in NFLD.
About BC.
Well I personally know lots of people from BC. My friend that just died was from Prince George.
But until talking to you two tonight on this forum I have never heard tell of Albertans going to BC for work. I would bet any amount the numbers of people going to BC from AB are far less than the numbers from BC moving to AB.
Rutherford just had a show on this the other week with government guests. The jeast of the show was that BC and AB where coming to agreement to recognize credentials from each others workers. Example nurses and realitors from BC could move to AB and work in their professions and have their BC credentials recognized.
Basically everybody thought this was great because they claimed BC had a surplus of workers without work and AB had a surplus of jobs without workers.
Here is my point. BC is about the richest in resources and location in the world. Fisheries, woodland, minerals, oil& gas, major shipping harbours, fresh water, climate, beautiful scenery, etc, etc.
You should be an economic leader! People should not be leaveing the province to find work and I know its been happening for years now.

So whats your position on immigration?
My position is that we need to drastically stop immigration to Canada. We need to be way more choosey about who we are letting in.
But yet all three Federal partys seem to think the more people coming the better.

As long as Canadians keep underperforming in the baby making dept. we will need to import people. Being choosey about who we let in seems to be the key. Problem is noone can agree on who the right people are. When I go the the hospital in Ft St John nearly all the doctors are foreign, mainly from South Africa. There is not nearly enough nurses or doctors. They gotta come from somewhere and we aren't producing enough of them. So I say import all we can. Where I quickly stray from the politicaly correct line of thinking is my belief that we should try to encourage more anglo saxon immigration. The demographhics in this country are getting way out of balance.
The question was posed up here awhile ago: should we look elsewhere including overseas to adress the worker shortage in NE BC? Of course, one group (can't remember the groups name) got up and said that because the reserves still had as much as 90% unemployment there will be no worker import innitiatives. HUH?!?!??? Boy, if youre not working here it's because you don't want to. Period.
Anyway... thats my rant. As far as the rest of BC goes..... well.... they're not like us. I've allways had difficulties with a province that has its capital on an island in the pacific. I figure the border ought to be picked up and layed down the height of land ALL the way from north to south.

Well I will talk about AB because I know more about this area.
I tend to look at it like this. The resources are there until we take them out. Whats the rush? Why not develope at a rate that is practical that does not require us to import millions of workers from around the world?
Right now inflation is crazy in AB. Up in Calgary everywhere you went there was help wanted signs. Our Motel room cost $190 for one night! One restaurant was closed with a sign saying it was because of lack of staff. Services sucked everywhere you went because of staffing problems.
Like if I was looking to start a business or to build something or develope, I would put it off right now just because of labour costs.
Some people think a boom is great but I think in AB we have gone beyond the limit! The costs here are crazy. You make big money but you have nothing left because of what it costs to live! Maybe you and Mrs. Greg where right about people leaveing the province. Whats the good to be making big money if your basically homeless in AB?
The ones who do good on these booms are the ones who owned land before the boom. Sold off and moved to SK or someplace cheap to live.
What happens if interest rates go up which im betting they will? What do we do with all these guys that we are importing from Shrilanka and other parts? How do we pay for all this huge infastructure that we are building?
The immigrants from South Africa I have no trouble with. Its the ones from weird cultures and who cant speak English, have little money or education and who basically dont fit in that I have the trouble with.
I mean I want a good economy but this scale of growth isnt benifiting us.

Isnt that terrible. Boy if I was running the country things would be different
Worse part is there are lots of American criminals fleeing to Canada because if the get caught up here there is no Death Penalty and they know we wont send them back.

I heard Lyle Oberg{consevative leadership candidate} say that the employers have to start being responsible for thier employees living arrangements. The oil companys are making disgusting amounts of money,I believe a rotation of employees from Eastern Canada could be flown back and forth at employers expence, this keeping thier province alive, familys would stay home see dad on a month to month bases, and Alta would have homes avaiable at decent prices.

All of the five Dr.s in our small town are from South Africa and we are darned lucky to have an extremly proffesional group od Dr.s,as a matter of fact not one Dr. in our county is a Canadian born and bred. So be it.

I for one am more then a little tired of this boom in Alberta. The service industry is more then the pits, you don't get decent service anywhere anymore because doesn't matter how good the employees are, they can't replace them so they keep them.

Up in Calgary you where looking at about $25 average to get a meal for one person at a restaurant. That was eating the cheap stuff off the menu.
Mrs Greg what do we do with all the muslims, hindos, etc?
How do they get into the country if they cant even speak English? This is beyond dumb!

Maybe Roper a one way ticket back to thier country would help. The muslims that come into Canada have no interest in becoming Canadian, they are here for the work. They mostly chose not to speak english. Our daughter worked at a construction site at Sherwood Park, she was in charge of the safety issues and running the gate the truck drivers hauling gravel came through....well they are ALL muslim, refuse to follow the safety rules of hardhats, told her she was discriminating against them, they're in our province should be following our rules. Over half of them spoke no english and refused to listen to our daughter because she was a female, that really ticks me off because in our country women are respected for what they can do,not disrespected for it. If they feel they can have a better living here in Canada, learn the language follow the laws, respect our citizans.............

Oil is boom bust, Mrs. Greg. Just wait until you see the bust. I am from Texas and have lived through it a few times.
