About that WW2 memorial closing.

I have been to DC dozens of times.. well actually hundreds.. but I hate admitting I spent so much time in that cesspool..

I have been to the WW2 memorial,.
the only time it is fenced off was during construction. there is no fence around it normally..

the Mall is a national park.. so just to get to the WW2 memorial you have to walk across an allegedly closed park..

someone had to be called in to put a fence up.. it isn't there normally.. it is an open area..

so who ordered some low level employee to put up the fence?

The scene was both emotional and comical at once. After it was clear they had lost control of the situation, Park Police officials stood aside, telling press that they had “asked for guidance on how to respond” to the breach of security.

As Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, distracted a Park Police representative, other lawmakers and their staff helped topple the metal fences. A bagpiper on hand for the event led the men past the crowd and into the heart of the memorial, attracting a large, applauding crowd.

Rand Paul: WWII Memorial Access Blocked By Government 'Goons'

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) accused President Barack Obama's administration of sending "goons" to block veterans from visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC on the first day of the government shutdown.

During a Tuesday appearance on Fox News' "Hannity," Paul said the closure of national parks and monuments was a Democratic "charade."

"Some idiot in the government sent goons out there to set up barricades so they couldn't see the monument. People had to spend hours setting up barricades where there are never barricades, to prevent people from seeing the World War II monument, because they're trying to play a charade."

Paul continued, "They like the shutdown."

one of those comically ironic situations an old feller used to talk about..

you can't pay folk to maintain a park.. which is open everyday with no fence or gate..

but you can pay people to set up a barricade and for police to guard the barricade..

government at it's finest... :? :???:

I hear obama is as proud of today as he was when he shut down the white house tours to the little children.. Obama is a selfish sleaze..

Question for the lefties
Is this the kind of government you want? The kind that disrespects all it citizens(yes even the left) and especially our veterans.

When will the left rise up and say enough is enough

A day after busloads of World War II veterans, many from Mississippi and in wheelchairs, broke past a barricade to cross into the World War II Memorial, new barriers were put up.

Wednesday, Park Service workers could be seen adding more barrier around the outdoor memorial.

“Obviously we did not want to do anything to mar the trip of these people,” she said, saying the visitors came from Mississippi and Iowa. “They’ve come here specifically to see the memorial that was built for them.”

Unreal: Park workers installing more barricades around WWII Memorial to keep vets out,... feds actually deploying forklifts to set up gates around a memorial that’s open 24 hours a day with little supervision under normal circumstances. https://twitter.com/charliespiering/media/grid

Mounted Police now protecting the World War 2 Memorial from World War 2 veterans. Sanity restored.

Then why put up "barricades"?

if you think that is bad.. check out the WW! memorial.. I guess they figured any ol WW1 vets wouldn't be able to figure out how to get around this one..

and this guy "keeping" folk away from the Lincoln Memorial..

really is this as absurd as it can get? doesn't the president realize many Americans with a lick of common sense would see the stupidity of paying a person to keep them out of a place that normally doesn't have a person there to let them in?

total horseshit. they pull it here on a local level, when it looks like some mill levy they want might not pass.

"well, we'll be ok--probably just have to cut back on the library, eliminate local deputy, senior meals......"

there's always idiots---keep a few of these 'mall cops' or whatever they are on rotating shifts to deter vandalism, purse snatching, etc, and let the people enjoy they own property and monuments.

WAY too much govt and WAY too many hogs in the trough in this country.

Here comes the old liberal excuse "they all do it"
absurd and you fell for the leftwing crap. They are using more manpower keeping people out than they ever did keeping it open.
And you leftwingernuts fall for their crap.
We told you so

The Obama Administration has decided to block access to public memorials on the National Mall as a result of the government shutdown. Like its decision to end White House tours when the sequester cuts took effect, there is no rational reason for this. The Park Police, nominally in charge of monitoring these spaces, isn't even effected by the shutdown. Shutting off access to these sites is gratuitous and petulant.

BILL MAHER: The other thing that apparently was so important for the Republicans to keep open was the World War II Memorial in Washington. That was closed, so a bunch of the World War II vets knocked down the barriers and stormed it. [Laughter]

And then I loved this, they posed for pictures with Michele Bachmann who showed up. Michele Bachmann, one of the people most responsible for shutting the (lib eloquence) thing down. They're the greatest generation - nobody said they were the brightest generation. [Laughter]
