well , where do i start but say we lost all of our oat hay for this year and we may have 5 acres of corn left to chop for silage on the bottoms ground the ranch owns , but we still have 30 acres we can chop on some higher ground . last yr we chopped allmost 1000 ton of silage we still have a lot of it left were hoping that we will have enough to carry over, as of right now the ranch needs to buy close to 700 big round bales of hay, but on a good note weve been dry for two weeks , cattle are looking good. well not much to say , hope everyone has a good independence day weekend

thanks fh , im just sitting back and enjoying a cold one as lazy ace would say, but anyways its all gonna get better

Seems like every night a storm rolls thru and a another place gets a flood. Might be our turn tonight the way it feels out there. Got done branding calves today. :D

talking more rain this weekend here....hope we get wet, but not saturated.

I feel for you rowel....

ugh, 1-5 inches of rain in the forecast for Sunday-Monday. Unfricking believable. Should we start building the arc now or later?

HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DES MOINES IA
1035 PM CDT FRI JUL 2 2010

...VERY HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE INDEPENDENCE DAY THROUGH MONDAY...

DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE STREAMING NORTH FROM THE REMNANTS OF
HURRICANE ALEX IS STILL EXPECTED TO INTERACT WITH A SURFACE
BOUNDARY THAT WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA ON
SUNDAY AND POSSIBLY STALL OVER THE SOUTHEAST. THE RESULT WILL BE
TRAINING THUNDERSTORMS THAT WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE
EXTREMELY EFFICIENT RAINFALL PRODUCERS. A WIDESPREAD 1 TO 3 INCHES
OF RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE. A MORE NARROW BAND OF 2 TO 4 INCHES
INCLUDING LOCAL AMOUNTS OVER 5 INCHES MAY OCCUR BEFORE THE
PRECIPITATION ENDS DURING THE DAY MONDAY.

ALTHOUGH THE RECENT DRY WEATHER HAS ALLOWED SOIL CONDITIONS TO
BEGIN TO RECOVER...SOIL MOISTURE REMAINS ABNORMALLY HIGH. RAINFALL
RATES WITH THUNDERSTORMS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE HIGH WHICH WOULD
LEAD TO EXCESSIVE RUNOFF DESPITE MATURING CROPS. MANY CREEKS ARE
CURRENTLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLASH FLOODING DUE TO THE RECENT HEAVY
RAINFALL. INDIVIDUALS CAMPING IN LOW LYING AREAS THIS HOLIDAY
WEEKEND SHOULD BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND EVEN IF
THUNDERSTORMS ARE NOT DIRECTLY OVERHEAD. WATER LEVELS CAN QUICKLY
RISE FROM HEAVY RAINFALL UPSTREAM.

ANOTHER CONCERN IS THE VERY HIGH WATER LEVELS THROUGHOUT MANY OF
THE LARGER RIVER BASINS. A WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAINFALL WOULD LEAD TO
RENEWED FLOODING OR MORE SIGNIFICANT FLOODING THAN WHAT IS
CURRENTLY ONGOING. STAY TUNED TO FUTURE FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS
REGARDING THIS POTENTIAL SITUATION.

jigs were forecasted for rain from sat till tuesday last i saw, we could use some rain to settle the dust , but like you said no saturation

OHHHHH, you folks...that's really too bad.

We haven't had to deal with flooding much, only once really
in W. Montana in 1982. But I know it is tougher than dealing
with drought...at least I have heard that.

There's flooding issues around parts of Des Moines as it right now with a weakened levee. Heavy rain, espically north of here will only make matters worse. Good news is that for the most part, crops looks pretty good around here, especially corn, well that is if the field hasn't seen water standing in it.

I've got about 200 bales worth of hay on the ground hope it holds off till sunday evening.
