This cow developed cancer eye about three weeks ago. We were hoping it would not progress as fast as it did but today I made the decision to remove the offending eye. She can raise a calf and be a saleable cow this fall.

Sedated, clipped up and frozen.

We used to have to do that too, gcreek. But with black faces, we
don't do that nasty job any more...haven't had one for over 20 years... :p

We got good at catching 'em quick so sometimes we didn't have
to take the eye out. Could just cauterize them.

Golly, a trip down memory lane...

This is the first one on this ranch in ten years, second ever. I do get some practice on the neighbors Simmy x Hereford cows occasionally.

FH, it was shirtsleeve weather here this afternoon. :D

That was a stumble down memory lane.

About ten or twelve years ago, a neighbor called up seeking advice on which veterinarian to use for eye work. He had 22 cows that needed eyes taken out that fall.

The O--Bamm!!a health care system works quite well on cancer-eyed cows.
