Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

I'm sure a bunch of liberals will be along at any minute now, to condemn Harper for allowing a Chinese state owned company, to invest in the oilsands.

Until it affects you personally
Become unemployed due to foreign buyouts and it is not so rosy.
American capitalism at its best has unfortunately started to affect Canada in a negative way - yet again
Cows and sheep are calling - time to go and sulk in the cold while I feed them their daily rations - cheers

Despite being a conservative who voted for Harper - and being a constituency president for one conservative ederal fmember of parliament - not too long ago - I actually do condemn Harper for NEXEN - which I am sure is what you meant.
I have no problem with foreign investment - however I have a huge problem with foreign ownership!
The Chinese did not invest - they bought it - lock stock and barrel - to run as THEY see fit - and that will mean jobs lost to Canadians as they bring in workers under the temprary workers permit system.
See how the Chinese have brought in 300 workers to run two mines in British Columbia because they did not want to provide those jobs to Canadians.
See how the Chinese are ignoroing court orders from the British Columbia courts as they believe they do not fall under Canadian law as they are a complete Chinese company with no Canadian workers.
HD Mining refuses to show B.C. unions the files on work permits for Chinese miners

NEXEN will be next - they will start laying off Canadians and bringing in temporary workers.
Beware of China - a vast, powerful and extremely corupt country that has no respect for anything that is not Chinese - if they cannot buy it they will steal it - if they cannot steal it they will take it by force.
The US of A has a lot of problems we talk about and even promote on these boards - but Canada SHOULD be a hot topic right now as well - too bad it is not.
