Alaska's Airport to Nowhere: $15 Million for Town of 150 Peo

I lived in some of those small towns in Alaska once..............

They thrive off of tourists.............................

This is sure much better than the airport in Pennsylvania getting all the money for improvements with only 2-3 flights per day, through Murtha and his numerous kickbacks.

I suspect Yellowstone also has far less than 150 people. The government has spent mega bucks on that place for years and years. There is no liberal rhetoric written about that. I wonder why?

I thought the topic was interesting and don't know anything about it, so couldn't judge one way or another.

I suspect in general that there will be some unexpectedly good outcomes from some stimulus spending and some duds as well.

I know that aviation infrastructure is a priority globally and that the US government is involved in funding initiatives.

I have nine relatives there in Alaska. None feel the way your liberals do and they are sick of the campaign against Palin by the Anchorage paper.

I suspected you were taking a nonchalant swipe at Palin.

Was I in error?

That is a drop in the bucket compared to the billions spent on irrigation for the desert. The government would have been money ahead to buy them fertile farm land elsewhere. That expenditure goes on forever with no return.

Sometimes we pre-judge and jump to conclusions.

Palin was not the agenda. Neither implicitly nor explicitly.

It is the same sore subject that you liberals have bashed her with.

Kind of like saying, "I did not have sex with that woman" and saying you are not even thinking of Bill or Hillary.

They are supposed to have $15 million earmarked for a new port of entry at White Tail MT. A busy summer day last week had 4 cars. It's not that far around.

In Alaska, many times the only way out is by air.
They need good airports. Tourists are a big part of their
economy and tourists like nice airports; especially SAFE airports.

Every resident of the Kenai Penninsula was stick there in '64 after the earth quake took out the road to Anchorage. The only way in and out was by air or boat. Residents of Homer, Kenai, Soldotna, Seward and all the other small towns were land locked.

What I remember the most was drinking mixed Carnation powdered milk everyday with my school lunch.

My eldest sister lives in Soldotna. My eldest bro did too until he died in '99. Their children (my nieces and nephews) live all over. How they feel about their government is much more important than how we feel. They are sick of liberal bashing. They understand why Palin chose to be a servant leader and leave office.

Why some one wants to bring up old news in this forum and dump more salt in wounds is beyond me.

Keep grinding those axes. It helps the republican cause more than you'll ever know.

My dad worked in Alaska for over 15 years. He helped build the "Pioneer Roads" the ones thhat were made to bring the heavy equipment in on.
We were in Alaska in 2001 and talked to the natives about Anwar;
they were all for drilling in it and was really unhappy people were
protesting it.

Dad said there is nothing there, we should be utilitizing the natural rescources God provided. Why in the world the liberals can up and halt things that make sense, when they make NO SENSE, is beyond me.
How did they get so much power?

it seems to be the trend in the stimulus bill shove it thru so fast no one can get it right or get decent projects going..

last week we had an accident on one of two main roads in and out of our county.. it backed up traffic for at least five hours and for about 30 miles..

the accident site is a common site for accidents as it is a major intersection on a highway..

cost to fix $10 million...

we could have an alternate route but the bridge is condemned.. cost to stabilize... $4 million,. cost to replace 420 million..

our second route is a quagmire of protected swamps.. a road improvement done the old way about 6 million.. projected cost.. billions..

so if a hurricane or severe nor~easter hits here thousands will die sitting on broken roads..

compare that to a few who might need to be flown out in a cross winds. and I think I feel like the bill was rushed through with little to no real thought..

it shouldn't have to be a mockery to Palin.. it should be a mockery of those who made this bill the contentious piece of crap it is..

we live under the threat of hurricanes and severe northeaster here on a penninsula, so I can understand the isolation that can create. and while I don't fear a storm, I know the results could be devastating.. leaving would put you in a traffic jam from hell.. and staying could risk your life as well.. and if either hit on a busy weekend.. any well planned evacuation would fail with the panic of the tourists...

this was more then likely posted by a tourist.. of our last may "high tide"
it is funny as they are reacting to a few inches of water when we often see several feet during a typical nor~easter..

I really do not care what Alaska gets, seeing how we will not let them do as they please with their resources, that being oil. People in Washington thousands of miles away tell them what they can do with their own land. If there is any state that should get some perks it is Alaska seeing how they are not allowed to govern themselves.

Alaska could be the riches state in the union and stand alone as a rich country if left alone by Tree huggers in Washington.

that statement about nails the reasons for both writing and posting this article.

I said twice now that Palin was NOT on my mind when I posted this and was not the reason I posted it.

That is the solemn truth. It's aggravating that I have to repeat it over and over.
Sorry but you have shown over and over that you are willing to bash over and over again. So maybe if you try not bashing and accept the unbelievablity of those on here and show your not doing the same thing again it will stop. But there are consequences to your words and your paying that now.
Sorry I dont believe you, but you say your not and will not ...ok fine, but I will watch and see.
