The "atypical" cases in the US were determined in the UK, after several months of further testing.

Determining "Atypical" is pretty easy. If it tests positive with Western Blot and the Bio-Rad and negative with IHC.

Well..........that's all there are to it.

The holes/lesions/vacuoles just ain't there to see.

Just detect the PrPsc themselves.

How long does it take for a positve to be deemed "Atypical"?
Not long in the US if it means they can call off the investigation and not have to look for the feed source an infect cow contracted BSE from.

This is the work of the USDA. You're not questioning their credibility, are you?

Like I said before if they had a bit more information and help coming from the industry itself then maybe they could be a bit more forthright. Little white lies within the industry soon become a BIG problem for everyones credibility, include the agency the trys to regulate you.

If it is just this easy then why wasn't the Texas cow ruled Atypical in June of 2005 when a IHC negitive test result was proved wrong with the positive Western Blot test result? :?

If you'll recall the western blot was done much later and the USDA hem-hawed around about the IHC. The Weybridge lab called it right-off.
