I really don't know a whole lot about AISH other then the help my niece gets..her little guys equipment is REALLY expensive so they help with that, not all of it for sure a small percentage. I know there are adults recieving it and I know the guidlines to getting it as an adult are quite tough..a friend has a son with high functioning spina bifida, whos looking a the rest of his life in a wheelchair...he was refused help from AISH.
Roper,I've read Life With Billy...truly a horror story.
You see that is another thing. How many people end up on welfare because they find out that Workers Compensation or that Canada Pension/disability are only a tax that they pay into and not real insurance plans to help people when they are disabled?
If you listen to Rutherford he gets people all the time complaining about how they were denied benifits and told to go on welfare.
You see these bearucracies are in business to be in business. They would rather spend more money fighting the people that they are sapposed to help instead of just doing their mandate.
The more claims they turn down and the more employees they hire for their massive appeal/investigation program the more money and power for their beauracracy.
Its also insane the wages and bennifits that the top white collar beaurocrats in Workers Compensation make every year. I forget the exact amount but their makeing millions on the backs of injured workers!
There have been many suicides because of this. How would you feel if you where injured on the job and then find out your going to be permanatle disabled and have no money coming in to fead your family except for welfare?
Or worse yet you recovered from the accident. Did not recieve any WC bennifits. Say you where off work for a year but they only paid you for six weeks. But yet could not get rehired anywhere because since you have put in a WC claim nobody will risk rehiring you because they dont want to put up their WC rates.
Stuff like this happens to good people all the time.
About Billy Stafford from Bang Falls NS. Every bit of that book was true and not an exageration. BTW Jane Hurshman killed herself a few years after she wrote that book
