READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH THE OLD NUMBER TO STOP A FILIBUSTER WAS 60.

NOW WE MUST RECONSIDER THIS NUMBER AND LOWER IT.
SORRY LOSERS. HOPE THEY GET BURNT TO THE GROUND IN NOVEMBER BY LANDSLIDES.

Barney Frank (D-MA) released this statement following Brown's win.

"I have two reactions to the election in Massachusetts. One, I am disappointed. Two, I feel strongly that the Democratic majority in Congress must respect the process and make no effort to bypass the electoral results.
If Martha Coakley had won, I believe we could have worked out a reasonable compromise between the House and Senate health care bills. But since Scott Brown has won and the Republicans now have 41 votes in the Senate, that approach is no longer appropriate.
I am hopeful that some Republican senators will be willing to discuss a revised version of health care reform because I do not think that the country would be well served by the healthcare status quo.
But our respect for democratic procedures must rule out any effort to pass a health care bill as if the Massachusetts election had not happened.

Going forward, I hope there will be a serious effort to change the Senate rule which means that 59 votes are not enough to pass major legislation, but those are the rules by which the health care bill was considered, and it would be wrong to change them in the middle of this process."

Remember Soaps headline, "Democrats like to make rules but not follow
them." So true. It's gonna be interesting watching
the wiggle room they try to come up with. They really think they can't be stopped. :x

I don't understand some of the Democrats after what happen last night.

I heard some on CNN and MSNBC last night say they thought this was a message from the voters that they are mad the Dems have not achieved enough and they need to work harder to get more of their agenda done faster.
Can they actually believe the voters would strip the Dems of their super majority because they weren't doing enough.

It was stripped because the DEMS have an elitist attitude and were not listening. They (Pelosi, Reid and Obama) were using their majority to stuff things down the throats of voters even after being told all summer long a MAJORITY OF VOTERS didn't like what was going on in DC.

Some are saying they should bypass rules and stuff the health care bill through before Brown in sworn in. If they do that I see a rebellion like no other. History will be written but it will not be because of the election of a black President, but the destruction of the Democratic party because of STUPIDITY.

To me.... it's not just voting republican. We must push for honorable men and women to run for office. And get them elected no matter the party.

I agree somewhat, katrina; but did you read the thread where Soapweed pointed out about Ben Nelson--someone posted they voted for the person and not the party; Soap used Ben Nelson for an example...when it came right down to it, Nelson sold out for the Democrats. He didn't stay true to
the MAN they thought they voted for...Soap made a good point and after reading that, I'm not so sure it works to vote FOR THE PERSON. I guess
what we need to do, is make sure the right person is running on the ticket before it ever gets to election time. Like you said, push for more respective men and women to run. That I certainly agree with. It's hard to find those people, it's such a dirty business...but with Palin and Brown, we know they are out there.

I know I'm more interested in politics, or have been since 911, than ever before. We would do well to be more informed and more involved in politics in our respective states.

it is difficult.. I vote for the person on the state level and pick the lesser of the two evils on the fed level...

another good example is Jim Webb VA. .. other then his voting record, it is difficult to find reasons not to vote for him..

the opposite could be said for NJ republican congressman.. I don't really like the man...and hope he would retire, so a conservative could take the congressional seat, I don't like most of his votes.. but the other guy was worse... and a democrat.. that would have followed party lines...

Pete Ricketts came to our town during the town blowout, and ate lunch at my wife's food stand. I had a chance to visit with him uninterrupted for 10 minutes. In November I voted for Ben, who I had also met while he was governor. My gut told me Pete imagined he could buy the Senate seat. I hope he's happy now with the Cubbies.

Now that is just plain interesting because my creep meter went off with nelson... I don't know if it's the hair or what... But I just couldn't vote for him. And I know Ricketts wasn't to peachy...

Term limits, and no retirement plan other than 401K....we have to have them on all of congress.

Exactly 2 term limit and just a 401K retirement plan is what we need. sure we would lose some good ones but the bad ones wouldn't be able to keep buying their seat.

This is not a Republican / Democrat thing. We need a total housecleaning!

(But I admit that Republicans <generally> are the lesser of two evils)
