"Amnesty"

Didn't we just got through this a few years ago?

President Obama, just days into his second term, is pressing ahead on the explosive issue of immigration reform -- boosted Monday by a bipartisan group of senators drafting a proposal of their own while running into early criticism that the blueprint amounts to "amnesty."
The president is traveling Tuesday to Las Vegas, where he will outline his immigration reform goals, said to be similar to those he championed during the campaign. The issue was put on the back burner during his first term -- overtaken by debate over health care legislation and economic measures. But along with gun control, it one of the top items on his second-term domestic agenda.
Eight U.S. senators got ahead of him Monday, unveiling a blueprint that calls for, among other things, a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the United States.
But White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the president "welcomes" the proposal, saying it represents the "bipartisan support coalescing" behind certain principles of immigration reform.

I just can't believe their lies that 50% of Americans want legalization..... what dream world do they live in??

If it does pass I hope there's an actual limit of 11 million because our government lies and I would bet we have at least 4 times that....

Nothing will work until they lock the borders down........................

But now that I think of it, with this disastrous economy Buckwheat is overseeing, we might all be immigrating down there.

Landscape shifts on immigration

By Alexander Bolton - 01/28/13 04:31 PM ET

A bipartisan group of senators on Monday said the political landscape for immigration reform has changed, boosting their hopes for passing a bill.

Recent elections have changed his party’s view on immigration, said Sen. John McCain, a Republican from Arizona who led an unsuccessful push to reform the nation’s immigration laws in 2006 and 2007.

McCain said his party’s leaders and strategists are convinced they need to agree to some measure of reform to boost the party’s image among Hispanic voters, who voted overwhelmingly for President Obama in November.

“As I’ve stated before, elections, elections,” said McCain,
who along with four colleagues spoke out at a Monday afternoon Capitol Hill press conference about a set of bipartisan principles for reform they had released with three other senators a day earlier.

“The Republican Party is losing the support of our Hispanic citizens, and we realize there are many issues in which we think we are in agreement with our Hispanic citizens, but this is a pre-eminent issue for those citizens,” said McCain, his party’s standard-bearer in the 2008 presidential election.

“We cannot continue as a nation with 11 million people residing in the shadows, and we have to address the issue and it has to be done in a bipartisan fashion,” McCain said.

McCain's point was underscored by Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) participation in the bipartisan Senate group. Rubio is seen as a leading contender for his party's presidential nomination in 2016, and his endorsement of the proposals gives the group some cover from conservative criticism.

The four principles unveiled late Sunday include granting temporary legal status and creating a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, increasing visas for skilled workers, establishing an employer verification program and setting up a guest-worker program for jobs that cannot be filled by American citizens.

In the words of McCain- its all about elections, elections..
Shows what I've thought was true about both parties for years- principles and what is or is not right for the country means nothing-- its all about getting elected...

he went off the "leading contender list" the minute he caved on immigration...

no way he would get through the primaries now... so why not join with McCain as one of the lifelong politicians who cave to the liberals at every turn..

Lets see- you've kicked out Rubio, Jindal, and Christie now-- pretty soon you'll have to bring back Huckleberry or the Newt for top contenders...

They'd fit in perfect leading the GOP- the party of old grey haired white men.... :p

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee and former Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement on the new push for comprehensive immigration reform and amnesty:

“Americans overwhelmingly oppose illegal immigration. They have pleaded with Congress to end the mass illegality for decades to little avail. All the while, millions have been added to the total of those illegally here.

It’s time to fix that broken system. Now we are told that the Obama Administration and members of Congress say they have a plan that they promise will do the job. So, the American people will need to watch closely. And, members of Congress must insist that they have a full and complete opportunity to study and amend such legislation.

“We would be in a much better position to achieve immigration reform if the Obama Administration had spent that last four years enforcing federal law rather than dismantling it. Brave immigration agents have been left with no recourse but to sue their own Department head, simply so that they—like any other law officers—will be allowed to do their jobs…The first task for every media agency in the country ought to be to study this lawsuit, to listen to the long-documented complaints of ICE agents, and to review the record of stymied attempts at congressional oversight of DHS…

What good are promises of future enforcement when the Administration covertly undermines those laws now in place?”

We would be in a much better position to achieve immigration reform if the Obama Administration had spent that last four years enforcing federal law rather than dismantling it. Brave immigration agents have been left with no recourse but to sue their own Department head, simply so that they—like any other law officers—will be allowed to do their jobs. Just last Friday a federal judge made an important preliminary ruling in their favor. The ICE union also held their own agency head, John Morton, in no confidence with a unanimous vote. The first task for every media agency in the country ought to be to study this lawsuit, to listen to the long-documented complaints of ICE agents, and to review the record of stymied attempts at congressional oversight of DHS.

No comprehensive plan can pass Congress as long as this administration continues to defy existing federal law. What good are promises of future enforcement when the Administration covertly undermines those laws now in place?

Yet, without consulting the law officers who have the duty to enforce the law, another group of senators, meeting in secret—just like the last time comprehensive reform failed—have set forth an outline with no legislative language. We have seen too often before that the promises made by bill sponsors do not match up to the reality when the language is produced. No secret accord with profound consequences for this nation’s future can be rushed through. That means a full committee process and debate and amendments on the floor of the Senate.

Several points need to be understood. Amnesty will not help balance our budget. In fact, a large-scale amnesty is likely to add trillions of dollars to the debt over time, accelerate Medicare’s and Social Security’s slide into insolvency, and put enormous strain on our public assistance programs. We know already that the administration refuses to enforce existing law restricting immigrant welfare use, and in fact promotes expanded welfare use to immigrants—including food stamps, public housing, and Medicaid. I joined with four Ranking Members to obtain answers from the Department of Homeland Security about this evisceration of law, and the Administration has suspiciously defied three consecutive oversight requests.

These and other critical issues must be carefully considered as we go forward. Certainly, our current system is broken. Work must be done to fix it. That effort must occur.

All Americans, immigrant and native born, will have a better future if American continues to stand unique among nations for the special reverence it places in the rule of law.”

aaah, now we get to the truth.... and I know I will be emailing my congressional leaders and opposing it, and I encourage others to do the same.

NO Government benefits for seven years..... NO HUD, NO Foodstamps, NO SSA/SSI benefits..... you want amnesty then NO welfare/government benefits... for at least 7 years and if you can't support yourself then you can go back home. At least I think that should be added to the bill and also limit the bill to 11 million..... they want to lie and tell us there are only 11 million then limit the bill to that amount....

More than anything I am sick and tired of Obama and Congress ramming laws down our throat and ignoring the will of the people.

I think Jigs is right, Obama wants amnesty..... and like I saw on naturalnews.com they talked about Obama wanting background checks on Americans buying guns..... how about we have a thorough background check on Obama???

I would like to see a plan to register the illegals first..

make them
1. register
2. provide proof they have been here at least 1 year.
3. provide stable address (4 months residency in state registering in)
4. provide fingerprints and photo at time of registration
5. provide DNA sample
6.. criminal background check in both countries

anyone failing to register in 6 months will be excluded from any and all future immigration plans. and will be deported if detained for any reason.. period.

it would give law enforcement a vital tool in sorting out the criminal element.

I would tell the liberals,.. once you get all your illegals registered, then we will talk about immigration reform..
