According to their research, subsidies received by Airbus for manufacture of its new A380 jetliner are legal under the 1992 US-EU Agreement on Trade in Large Aircraft and the 1994 WTO-Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, which allows for receipt of a loan—repayable with interest—to be used for aircraft research and development. Boeing officials have said Airbus benefits unfairly from European subsidies of the A380.
According to some sources that I've read- these are huge "never to be refunded" loans directly from the governments of France and Germany-which essentially makes Airbus owned by and controlled by the governments of those two countries...
Which, since they have not always been agreeable with our political actions, make some fear that having the planes made there, they could use the fullfillment of delivery on the contract or continued supply of replacement parts as a leverage tool over the US governments decisions...
In any way it takes away one more little piece of our sovereignty and puts us more at the dependence of foreign countries/industry....
