An old bell for a new belltower....

Mr Lilly spent the better part of last week restoring and repairing this old church bell. It had a crack in it...very similar to the liberty bell crack. He and an uncle drilled a hole at the top of the crack...then gouged out the crack and welded it up. Sandblasted and repainted it...he had to find a new spring for it....which ended up being an old leaf spring off a model T car LOL We are having a bell tower added on to our lil church in town. This will be the only real bell in Grimes County. They've never that anyone knows of, had a real church bell. There is one church that has electronic bells in Navasota. Yesterday was the big day....the bell was lifted and set into the tower.

And yes...you betcha he rang it! :D

Jassy....Mr Lilly rang it soon as it was set in the bell tower. But as to who gets to ring it sunday mornin....I don't know that. Not sure if they'll ring it this comin Sunday or not. I imagine they'll wait until it's all finished.

I'm sure that's what they'll do after the first time. There will probably be some kinda dedication ceremony when it's finished.

Our church lets the little ones do alot of stuff. They even take up the offering.
