And After The Polls....

It doesn't look as though we're going to see anymore voting, so the results are:

81% support allowing voluntary testing for animals under 20 months
85% support allowing voluntary testing for animals over 20 months
60% of producers would test their herd if a live animal test was approved for use in North America

So how many producer organizations are confronting the USDA and the CFIA and telling them what producers want? I'm not sure what RCalf's stance is on allowing voluntary 100% testing, but I know what my own country's "producer" organizations are saying, and it ain't much. What happened to producer organizations supporting the producer, even if the producers are wrong (which I don't think they are)?

I guess we would have to also ask, why only 37% of those producers are willing to pay for those tests? and why 25% think it should be the packers responsibilty to pay?

I think it was more your wording Murgen. You said 'if the packers required testing to ship to them', or something along those lines. If certain packers required the beef to be BSE tested, they can pay for it, either directly, or through premiums above market average.

If BSE testing was required to ensure the health of the herd or to ensure our exports to all or most of our customers, then the producer should step up and pay for at least a portion of the test.
