Hi folks,

I know there is a lot of uncertainty right now with threats of a government shutdown that will jeopardize jobs and hurt our troops and seniors. Unfortunately, I don't have all the answers you need. But I can promise you I will keep working no matter what.

I'm committed to making smart cuts to eliminate bureaucratic waste and reduce our debt while preserving rural priorities that Montanans depend on. We need to make tough choices and get serious about reining in our debt. But our tough choices have to be smart choices that restore financial security for working families - not pull the rug out from under them just as our economy is starting to recover. And we certainly can't balance the budget on the backs of our seniors by breaking the promise of Medicare.

A government shutdown should never happen. You send us here to work together to solve problems, not to get in fights. I'm going to continue to do everything I can to bring folks together and work with my colleagues to find a budget solution that puts us back on the path to fiscal responsibility without jeopardizing Montana jobs and communities. No matter what happens, I won't quit working to make that happen.

Don't you just love it when a Dem promises to stay working to work out a deal to avoid shutting down the government? Where was all this devotion to passing a budget when the Dems had total control of the government and the BUDGET SHOULD HAVE BEEN PASSED? :?

this budget should have been passes in early 2010

WASHINGTON -- Congress will not pass a budget resolution this year because the issue of the soaring national debt hangs over every policy debate in Washington, House Majority Steny Hoyer said today, and it will be impossible to pass a realistic long-term budget until the nation's structural deficit is addressed.

House Republican leadership pounced on Hoyer's announcement that a budget will not be passed, pointing out that Hoyer once called enacting a budget "the most basic responsibility of governing." The GOP critique came in the form of a mock cancellation notice, which read: "We regret to inform you that the congressional budget planned for fiscal year 2011 has been cancelled due to Washington Democrats' out-of-control spending spree."

to blame the republicans for what the democrats failed to do for almost a year is ludicrous.

the simple Answer is to pass a three week CR with NO add ons but funds the department of defense to the end of the year

then in two weeks do the same and fund SS to the end of the year..

by August we should have funded what we want and let the rest go unfunded.
